Hi guys

Have a customer who owns a small printing business who is looking for an A3 photo inkjet for high quality glossy prints...

Would prefer Hp or Epson (tho i hear good things about the Canons...)

Something like the Epson R1800 kinda range (+price around £300?)

Any experience or useful websites/forums where people are discussing their experiences with this range of printers would be useful!

Thanks!

We use the Canon i9950 very quick and produces stunning results. Can producd an A3 print in the same time that our ageing A4 Epson (can't remember the name now) can do an A4!

I don't really know about forums though...sorry

Hi, I have a A4 IP5000 (Canon) and a A3+ R1800 (Epson) and both Are fantastic. There really are no flaws with the R1800 that I have found apart from its ink consumption and the fact its outdone by its brother the 2400 or something. (thats more a black n white printer though) .

The R1800 uses CMYKKBRG
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Matt Black, Photoblack, Red, Blue, Gloss

Each ink costs £10.99 and the gloss is £6.99. So your heading towards 90 quid for a full replacement. They say it can produce aprox 25 A3 prints (which I personally doubt) and if you use it on RPM mode (Ultra high setting) then You will notice your ink monitor system drop.

Its built very well, I have had bad experiences with print heads from Epson in the past but this one has ran perfect since April.

It does full bleed print and also houses a CD printing feature. It looks smart and professional and although I spent 400 quid on mine. Its deffo worth the money. (must be about 300 - 350) now.

hope this helps. Johnny.

Another vote for the Canon... and I dont even own it!!!!
the guy I work with has one and does me a boat load of A3 prints, and quite frankly it does the best prints that I have seen from an Inkjet printer

and I am sat here with 2 A4 Epson printers one of which is a photo printer, and the Canon blows them away

I have bought my last Epson after see-ing what this Canon can do

My brother in law has the A4 version of the Canon with the same ink system and it produces super results. If I were to buy an A3 printer it would be the one that I would buy.

the A3 epsons are pretty nice
the a4 canons' are superb...however, the pixma A3 isn't on the scene quite yet
I'd be torn between the canon i9550 and the epson r1800
probs go with canon for general costs to be honest
the a4 epsons really put me off the r1800 even though it's a completely different print system

I ordered sample 6x4" images from Canon and Epson a few months back (you can upload your own images for them to print). The Canon images were so much more vivid, the pictures were really stunning. To me, the Epson looked a little washed out.

I got a Canon i9950 over the christmas period and I'm still stunned everytime I print one of my photos to A3. The printer's a little heavy on the Photomagenta and Photocyan cartridges, but if you search around, they're only about £6 each. It can print on CDs, do edge-to-edge prints, is VERY fast and depending on your tastes, either looks like something from the 23rd century, or a giant silver bread-bin! Software is easy to use, and prints look good on lots of different papers (have tried Fuji multijet glossy, Epson (not sure on the type here) and Kodak Ultima Photo)

I'd give it 9.5/10, but only because it can't do enormous panoramas like the Epson. I had to make the sacrifice of vivid photos over a slightly extended media-range.

edit: sorry - just read your comments about the HP - I didnt buy from them because they wouldn't send me any sample prints, best they could suggest was to go down to my local computer shop and ask. Also, the reviews I've read say the 8750 (i think) was very slow... not that i'm anti-HP; I've had my aging DJ960c for years and still love it!
