Im thinking of upgrading and wondered what the opteron 148 is like campared to my A64 3700 754 chip. Im really in the dark when it comes to these opteron chips. Whats so special about them if theres anything special about them?

Didn't realise they finally brought out the 754 SLi boards ohwell :) Whats it perform like? What you reckon I can get for my 3700 then?

An dits not really a waste becuase I can't go higher then the 3700 on 754. So now I will have the option in the future to go up.

It performs very very well. Got mine back in November and am very happy with it. I can play any of my games at 1600x1200@100hz with all the bells and whistles turned on. Benchmark wise i get this lot:-

3dmark03

3dmark05=11824 marks

3dmark06=6065 marks

Aquamark3 91001 points.

Price wise i have seen them going at auction for up to £150 but i have'nt seen one for a while and they seem to be very scarce nowadays. I can't find any in any of the UK etailors so you might even break through that amount. Not that long ago though another etailor was selling the OEM version for £110.

Don't forget that 939 is being replaced by the none too spectacular AM2 soon and support for 939 ends in at the end of the year while 754 will live on for a further year beyond that. Actually may be time to move over to the dark side (Intel) by then if Conroe is as good as it is supposed to be. It looks like at the moment AMD has no answer for it.
