Just noticed how ultra mega cheap these cpu's are now, at £26 inc. VAT for an OEM it would seem like an insult not to use one in a cheap build.

Few questions, never used a 939 A64 other than my X2 and Opty for ages, so how did the later 3800+ OC?

Also whats a good cheap 939 board that will clock well?

Indeed, the surplus A64 939 stock is dirt cheap. I picked up one of those £17 Athlon 64 3000+'s off OcUK on Friday and when it arrives I plan on having a little clocking project with it and perhaps practice IHS removal before attacking my Opteron 165. :D

The Athlon 64 3800+ overclocks are quite variable. Some are running close to their limits and you'll find that you're having to give it more volts at around 2.5Ghz but some have made it up to 3.0Ghz nice and easy. Around 2.7GHz would be the average. :)

As for a cheap 939 board, they're really scarce now. Your best bet is to try and grab a used nForce 4 Ultra based board like the DFI LanParty nF4 Ultra-D, MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum, Asus A8N-E and the like. All can be had around £40.

I have this CPU on an Asus A8N SLI SE at about 1.5V and on stock cooling managed 2.75Ghz. I fitted the mighty Tuniq Tower and now have it at 2.85Ghz stable, although I haven't pushed it TBH.
