How much of a difference would I see going from the following -

A64 @ 2.3Ghz (10x230), 1mb cache
1GB DDR

to

E6300 @ ?
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi
2GB memory (reccomendations?)

Not upgraded for a while and not upto date on anything at the moment!

Also, current graphics card is an AGP 6800GT, would I need to change to PCI-E?

PC is used for mainly for gaming but also browsing the net and listening to music, dvd's etc

Thanks for the advice so far.

What motherboard would be the best choice for overclocking?

CP-135-IN Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-135-IN)
£107.95 £107.95
MY-058-GL GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)
£109.95 £109.95
MB-152-AS Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-152-AS)
£139.95 £139.95
HS-033-AK Akasa AK-961 CPU Cooler with Fan Controller (LGA775) (HS-033-AK)
£16.95 £16.95
GX-047-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (3056) (GX-047-CO)
£174.95 £174.95
Subtotal £549.75
VAT £96.21
Total £645.96

Had a quick look and put the above together, what speeds would I be likely to get out of this (or with a better motherboard) and would it be a big improvement over my current system?

CPU should be able to get 3Ghz min with that mobo. Apparently the Bad-axe and Ds4 are very good overclockers if thats your budget.

Good choice although I not quite see the point in buying a motherboard which costs more than your CPU.

3Ghz I'd be happy with, what speed roughly would an A64 be at for equal performance? (gaming)

I agree about the motherboard price, added that one to get a rough idea of overall price as it was the only one which I've seen reccomended so far. What would be a better option?

If you kept your graphics card, you'd hardly see any real different in games, as your GPU will be the bottleneck.

So its a pointless upgrade if your keeping your AGP card (by going down the Asrock route)

Yeah I agree with you there, won't be keeping the card if I do upgrade.

Another option would be to keep the A64 and just upgrade the card, what would be a good AGP card to upgrade to? Or would I need to get a PCI-E card to notice a considerable difference?

Just had a look at a couple of reviews for the 7800gs+, think I'll hold back for now. Doesn't seem to be that much of an improvement over my clocked 6800GT really, not at 1280x0124 anyway.

Looking at the price of a new cpu, board, memory and card I think I'll hold out for a while longer, thanks for the advice anyway :)
