A64 Mobile 4000

That depends - I managed to get mine insured delivery from the states for just under £170.

However, it wasn't bought 'from a shop' so to speak.

There's a number of online retailers in the states who stock these chips but none of the them ship to the UK unfortunately.

Im looking at getting one from across the pond at around £180-£185 mark. Not bad considering its an FX55 in different clothes :D

between 170 and 190 notes seems to be the going rate for the Yankee ones.

One UK online retailer lists them at £215, but they're perpetually out of stock, on a 1-2 week back-order from a distribution warehouse and I was fobbed off with them saying my payment details were incorrect (they weren't incorrect at all) - all in all I think it was their way of saying they didn't have any and weren't getting any. Avoid that one if you come across it and are tempted.

Back to my little saga - my new motherboard isn't going to be arriving on tuesday, it'll be here tomorrow. However it's the first fixture of the new cricket season so I'll be messing with it on sunday.

I think I know what place your on about. To me its a decent buy for the money.

Im not too clued up on skt754 PCI-E boards, which one seems to be the best for overclocking? I know the DFI 250GB is a great board, but its an AGP card. Dont want to be buying a decent AGP card then having to change it when I try out something else...

SLI, Im not too bothered about as I dont have the money for 2 7900 GTX's :D hehehe...

Meths on here has the DFI 250GB - and is getting upwards of 3ghz as I'm sure you've seen.

As for other 754 PCIe boards - none that we know of officially support the rev E5 mobile Newark CPU's, and I gather Turion support is very patchy at best.

Epox boards don't support the mobiles, as I've found out recently! Pastymuncher is waiting on Asrock emailing him back regarding an SLI 754 board and Newark support (he has 2x 7800GT's). From many hours scouring many forums, the board I'm getting (Biostar Tforce 6100) seems to hold the best support for the Newarks. It's PCIe, but because it's a Micro-ATX board only has 2x SATA ports and 2x DIMM slots. However it's generally regarded as the Nforce4 equivalent of the DFI NF3, great for clocking.

If I were you I'd steer clear of anything AGP if you're even less than a moderate gamer. PCIe will hold you in good stead for any future upgrades.

I've just got a mobile S754 setup consisting of the MSI Neo Platinum and a mobile 3400+ (CG stepping 2.2GHz/1MB) currently testing it at 8 x 300 and is being cooled by Bennah's old 948U (cheers mate!).

I'm new to overclocking A64 and haven't got decent RAM yet so having to use the 133 divider with 3x HTT and have left everything else on standard.

Any tips or URLs I can read to get up to speed on getting an optimal setup? I'm also wondering what the max voltage for these mobile claws on air cooling and what's the very safe max voltage?

The Epox 8npa-sli is alright with Turions (With the current bios at least) It runs at the default voltage and will go up to 1.6v (If I remember right)
Of course, the same can't be said with it running the DTR chips... *shudders* They work, but it can be flaky.

I'm sure the current mobiles would work fine with some Epox's, it's just the DTR's that they have a classic dislike of.

Hm, looking at things, it might have to be a DFI 250GB after all. Im not a heavy gamer anyway. Something like a 9800 pro or something along those lines would do. A card that will cope with some online snooker and Football manager 2006. Thats all I play these days. Ive got the 360 for games ;)

So you have put it to use right away then :D Good to see. Good sink. You dont see many solid copper ones like that around these days. Not sure why Thermalright stopped them. Glad you like it anyway matey ;)

Im waiting on the same board actually to arrive. Did you get yours from here?

When my board comes, I think I'l have to get a cpu till I sort out getting a 4000+ Newark from across the pond. A skt754 venice would be a good start me thinks. There are too many options and routes I can start off with :p. I think it depends how much money Ive got to play with a 'test' cpu till I get a Newark really.

Still not heard from Asrock yet. They aew worse than Epox for getting back to you.

I have got to admit i have been toying with going back to one single card such as 7900gtx 512mb or the X1900XT 512mb (don't see why i should have to pay an extra £50-70 just for the extra 25mhz or so on the XTX). My only concern is that i play at 1600x1200@100hz with everything maxxed out and i am worried that i won't be able to with a single card. I will not reduce my res!!!

I will get my watercooling rig set up next week. Was hoping to be this weekend but one of my suppliers has let me down. I will probably end up sticking with what i have now until it is time to upgrade to Conroe or whatever is best when the time comes. No doubt in four or five months even better graphics cards will be out.

A watercooled X1900 XT or 7900 GTX will be able to play your games at the settings you play at decent enough. I'd get the 7900 GTX tbh, simple change from 2 7800 GT's. No hassle with driver changes and what not.

Yea, a new graphics card will probably be out in the next comnig months.

Im also waiting for Conroe to arrive. June I think it is. I will hold out till then to buy a PCI-E card. Im going with a DFI 250GB. Had a play with my mates and I like the board. From his 3000 Newcastle, I saw 335x8. Not bad from a Newcastle. 5:4 divider. 268MHz 2-2-2-5 @ 3.54v from his 2x256MB KHX3200 old skool Bh-5's :D Definatly a good board for BH-5's. Shame I sold my Mushy Blacks.

Well anyway, mind is made up and its defo a DFI 250GB board for me and just a normal AGP card. Spend about £50 on the card lol...

Yup, it's doing an ok job for now but will most likely get something better now I've tested the new kit. Any recomendations on a lighter and more efficient 754 bolt down cooler?

I got the board from the MM and so far it's working great with the mobile chip, time will tell though, so will be looking to read more about the Newarks and DFI etc.

Just got an answer from Asrock, well a one liner anyway. The reply is, "none of our motherboards support any mobile processors of any kind".

This sucks guys. Surely they must realise that they are missing out on a specialist market here. What i want to know is what the hell are they using in notebooks/laptops as motherboards? Surely there can't be that much difference between a desktop and a laptop motherboard.

I don't see any point in upgrading anything else in my rig for the time being. I know i was toying with going back to one high end graphics card but i have ditched that idea and decided to skip this generation and wait until i upgrade cpu, mobo etc again, which probably will not be until this time next year at the earliest. I may however get a 2gb kit of ram. That will be the fourth attempt as my previous attempts have resulted in recieving fake or faulty ram so i gave up. I read a thread on here yesterday that suggested someone to check the commit charge in task manager>performance to see how much memory they are using when gaming. I did this myself and was amazed of the size pagefile my rig was using due to the memory being swamped when playing Quake 4 and COD 2. So i will probably get a 2x1gb kit of something. Definately not Gskill or Ballistix as these were the problem ones i had recieved before.

New 754 Sli (sort of) board using ULI chipset. Asrock K8SLI-eSATA2 there's a link further up the page.

Found it this afternoon for £38.83.
