last night i was messing about with the bios settings, pushing the overclock, and my pc died.

im not really sure if its dead tho... when i 1st start up, the post passes, then it gets stuck on the screen where it tells you how many hdd's you got, what the irq settings are ect.

i can still enter bios. but i cant start the pc with a cd to try and format because the screen gets stuck before the "press a key to boot from cd" screen. i havnt tried a floppy yet because i havnt yet got a spare one about, but if i cant start the pc from cd, surly i cant start from floppy too??

i tried changing the gc but am having no luck.

im thinking it could be a currupt bios??

if so would flashing the bios solve it, (if it boots from floppy)

if i cant get it to boot from cd, will it not boot from floppy either?

Flashing the bios will most likely sort the problem.
Use the default bios you received with the Motherboard driver CD.
Once you've done that and the system boots fine you can upgrade to a newer bios for better performance.

NB. It would be usefull to know what motherboard and CPU etc you are using.

asus a8n-sli se on an athlon 64 3700 san diego. look in the sig man!

im going to buy a floppy drive sometime this week, im just worried i cant get to the point where it boots from floppy.

No you wont get to boot from floppy as that is done at same time as booting from cd which your not able to get to. If you can get into bios then can you restore everything to default and see if that works. Also try removing all your hard drives as possibly one of them causing a problem and that might let you get past the 1st screen

If you can get a new bios chip then hopefully that should fix it providing it is the bios that is at fault. Unless you have flashed to an unofficial bios then rma is fine + unless it displays the bios details down the very bottom then asus wont know anyway

this is the screen it gets stuck on, The little white line at the bottom left flashes.

can you see this being any other issue apart from the motherboard?

iv already checked the gc, ram. but not sure if it could be the cpu, psu or motherboard bios, or the motherboard itself

This is an all too familiar problem for me and it got worse other day, get blue screen every time i get into windows now (if it get to windows) but I can't pin point the problem. I've reset bios and the obvious stuff but to no avail :(

Remove power, remove CMOS battery, put CMOS clear jumper to clear and leave it overnight.

Oh and edit your posts not post three in 2 hours.

haha does it really matter.

thanx for the advice, will try it tonight

yeah try the overnight CMOS clear, if not, you could try physically replacing the BIOS, if not - RMA :(

Good luck! Oh, and nice DMX poster :D
