I'm looking for a new laptop for light gaming when I am on the move or visiting friends/family.

Something around the £300-400 range seems like a reasonable price range. Performance is the primary concern here, aesthetics are of no concern. Something that can run games at 30fps+ on low settings would be great.

A laptop with a A8-4500M has caught my attention. Any idea how good this APU performs and if it would be good enough for my requirements?

As an owner of an A10-4600m, it isn't all that bad. You can pretty much forget the likes of BF3/4 as they are just too demanding in multiplayer to be enjoyable. I'd look out for something with an A10-5750m if possible, it's the replacement of the 4600m and a decent bit faster, if rare as rocking horse poop.

Otherwise you're limited to laptops with a low end CPU and low/mid dGPU, something like a HD7670m or GT640m (though these would likely be more expensive)

Deals often come up on the Dell Outlet, I'm sure someone will know more about this though

I have found another with the upgraded APU you mentioned, A10-5750M for around the £400 mark. However because I have no experience in the laptop gaming market I don't know what is good value and what isn't.

Like I said, the laptop is only for light gaming, for demanding games I have my desktop. The only games I would likely play is a little bit of minecraft, a few source games and some low end MMOs.

I'll have a look at this Dell Outlet you mentioned now, thanks.
