I have a friend who is going to kindly donate some of his old bits so I can get a pc together for my 10 year old nephew. He has a A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and an AMD 955BE cpu and he is sure that they used to be used together at some point.
I have checked the Asus site and I can't see the cpu on the compatibility list, I was wondering if someone else would be able to confirm that the two would work together?

He also has some Corsair Balistix xms 3200 400mhz ram to go with it, would this lot work together?

Thanks for any help :)

The motherboard is socket 939 and the cpu is socket am3, so they won't work together. There are quite a few am3 boards on ocuk, but I don't know which one would be best for that cpu.

As Lee has said above, that motherboard is socket 939, and very old.

A Phenom 955 is socket AM3. On top of that, the RAM that your friend has is standard DDR. A socket AM3 motherboard will not accept DDR RAM, for that you're going to need DDR3.

There are plenty of motherboards and RAM kits available on the OcUK site, but I'm hopelessly out of touch with regard to recommendations.

What's your budget? You could find second hand parts if you're on a tight budget, obviously.

Yeah, that's what I suspected thanks guys. I am after doing it as cheap as possible, like max of about £200 for a base unit with windows xp or something. I think I will have the cpu off him and the 5750 graphics card and see about getting the rest from the member market.

Thanks for you help :)
