has just stopped taking more than one stick of ram, and only takes it in slot 3.

Been using 2gig, 4x512 for months now...

erm? I'm completly stumped. Might try a bios flash but, really, why randomly stop?

Also it does one long beep and two short. If that helps...

Shameless bumpage.

Think my slot one ram slot has given up the ghost. Now able to run 3 stick of ram in slots 2 3 4, put fourth stick in slot one and beeps galore.

Anyway to fix this? :(

how could it be the cpu?

Cant bios update, asus site down for maintennance or servers are too busy.

Cpu is a venice 3000, at stock atm. Was running 100% stable with 4 sticks at 2.5, before that with 2 sticks at 2.8.

Has been getting kinda hot recently, high 40/50s :/

Ok, now running ram in slots 3 and 4, as oen and two dont seem to be working...

Tried all sorts of combinations, and when something is in slot one or two i get beeps. however i can use slot 2 with 2 and 4, although bios says " installed mem 1.5, available to use 1gig" :(

For an RMA do i need EVERYTHING that came with it :/ ? I have box and such, i think.. jst not every thing that came with it *Cables and such* most i havent used, but a few bits have gone walkies. Also I've modded it with a zelman heatsink and chucked the 10k rpm fan away, voids the warrenty wont it?

The zalman will void the warranty, however if your lucky you can contact asus tech support for a replacement new revision chipset cooler and they will send you it free. Fit that before you send it back, thats what i would do. That won't void the warranty because the retailer will never know if it came with the new revision or the old, and asus allow you to fit the new revision one without voiding the warranty iirc.

I'm in a similar position myself with memory failing memtest in this machine but fine in another, and i know its either the cpu or the board. I've left it for now as it works in windows ok, but at some point i expect i will have to rma my board and suffer the testing and postage fee if its tested ok by the retailer... same with the cpu, and i'm willing to bet both test ok with the retailer and i have to pay testing fees plus postage to get them shipped back to me and it will still fail memtest...

I'm never really sure why they ask you to send it back with everything it came with, i suppose its because a small percentage aren't faulty, but then they usually make you pay and give it back rather than selling it as b grade and giving you a new one anyway... its could also be to make sure it doesn't get damaged in the post i suppose.

ok, stuck my cpu back too 2.72 with 1gig of ram in.

Cpuz says one stick is in dimm1 and other is in dimm3 running in single chan. Which...it isnt, its in three and four.

:/
