just wondering if its possible to replace the heatpipes on the asus a8n32 for thirdparty heatsinks like a Zalman ZM-NBF47 Fanless Northbridge because the heatpip spreads over 3 areas what would be required

You would have to find a way to cool the southbridge, and because of the graphics cards the area available is only 40x40x10mm. On the A8n sli delxue they used a horrible rubbishy little fan which was noisy and didn't cool very well, and thats why they started using heatpipes.

You can get a cooler that will fit in there, but it will be rubbish and noisy, and it seems a waste after you have paid for the heatpipes to remove them.
You would also somehow have to find a way to cool the voltage regulator.

If you wanted to watercool everything this would be fairly easy as you can get water blocks for the voltage regulators and the chipset.

Well it might be but it will be a pig of a job and it won't work too well.

Why do you want to anyway?

i have an a8n32 and the heatpipes are crap if u are overcloking

@ OP, to bring temps down on mine i bought an akasa chipset cooler removed the fan stuck it on top of the small thin heatsink and placed an 80mm fan over it, worked a treat

The heatpipes just move the heat out from under the graphics cards so you can cool it better. I ducted my vreg heatsink to the rear fan and that keeps it nice and cool when overclocking.

If you stick a heatsink on the top of the southbridge heatsink you won't be able to use sli.

i dont want to use sli and the OP has an x1900 so cant sli, my idea was just a sugestion as it worked on my pc

You don't want sli and you want to remove the heatpipes...
Tell me, why did you pay a premium for a board with heatpipes and sli?

Sell the board and get something cheaper with the chipset in an easier location to cool.
