Ive recently got a cheap A8R-MVP to replace my dead Asrock 939DS2. On the whole I quite like it as I can push things a little more then before.

One annoyace is that on a cold boot it doesnt seem to acknowledge the fsb speed setting so just boots at "multi x mem divider". Cant figure any way round this atm. so i have to enter bios and hit save just to get settings I want. Using bios 0603

Bit annoyed that max cpu clock appears to be 2660 which is only 60 faster then what the asrock gave me. Max voltage is same as asrock (1.350v) but shows as around 1.390 in monitor and with overvolt hits 1.40-1.41. dropping ht multi and mem divider doesnt help push further :/ oh well. Ill just add that the cpu default is 1.30v

GFX clock on the other hand I am able to max out the overdrive gpu speed at 885 stable and mem 1275. Asrock i could only do 800/1175, anyhigher and the card would black out. makes me wonder if the asrock simply has a weak pcie voltage.

I got one of those boards.

Im running Vista64 on it perfectly fine and the board is a good one I think? - I only use it for the LAN so I cannot truthfully say what its like as a main PC.

I will say though, that its running a 4600 at stock and I didnt think it was that good at clocking options, so I just never bothered to really try.

Its got an XFI-Music and a NVIDIA 8800GTS 320MB in there running Vista64 and it has 4GB so, if there was ever a rotten mix to have, then I think thats pretty much it, but it has been flawless for a few months now, so...

It is mainly the not booting at the correct oc thats bothering me, although if I do a keyboard reset just after post, that sorts it and it loads my settings. Just the fsb speed its not acknowledging at boot. Interestingly if i use case reset button for what ever reason such as a bsod or gpu freeze (got these testing oc settings) it woulf forget that value again, and require a keyboard reset to load it again.

Apart from that im getting a tiny bit more out of the cpu and a fair bit more out of the gfx over the dead asrock i was using before so I am happy. Just wondering if it is a common fault with this board or ..just me ;)

In all honesty I dont rate the board very much at all for overclocking.
Its got crossfire and that was half a laugh but then thats also useless to me at this time... I dont have a master card although I do have an X800GTO2, X850, X1800XT and an X1900XT that are all crossifre compatible but no master card and the Abit AB9 QuadGT should crossfire if I really needed to, but the A8R-MVP however, no!

Anyway, where are we?
Booting at OC, CTRL-ALT-DEL vs Reset ? - ok, I will have a look at those issues, and see what happens?
What is your CPU Volts right now? 1.35? Im sure that mine goes higher than that??? I know that I saw 1.5v yonks ago on it, but I will also add that I have used various CPUs in there before settling with the 4600

Anyway, I have a 3800 in one of the PCs, I will put that into the MVP Board. I just looked at the board last night cos it was bugging me which one it was exactly and I remembered that it was the Radeon x200 board, so I fancy having some fun with it anyway.

So, I will put the 3800 in there and have a twidle about and see what things I can get yeah? - Im also wondering ( Memory not being my strong point sorry ) that there is an issue with the MVP over 260FSB too! - Need that checking out.

Before I shoot... What BIOS is yours?

thx for looking into this.

Im using the latest 0603 bios. I think ive hit the 260 issue already where ive had to drop to cmd rate of 2t to be stable. the cpu default is 1.30v so i guess its setting +.05 as max selectable for me.

Ok, some minimal updae for you... Been a bit busy last couple of days.

Ok, my BIOS is 5.3, so I suppose I could update it.

My CPU is a 4600 @ stock and 1.35v

What I am going to do tonight, is clock it as far as it will go before it gets too silly ok?

Last night I went to see Jethro Tull in Llandudno ( Great ) and this morning I was on Breakfasts so not had much time, tonight I should have a good 20 minutes ( JOKE ) to have some playing about! - Providing my internet stays alive long enough!
