Started playing games on my new asus 4890(which i'm RMA for new one coz fan sounds like a bearing knackerd sound)
I set everything up. AA AF etc to max. but on every game i play, the AA and AF don't seem to work. far tomany jaggerd edges. not sure why ?
that's with the 9.5 drivers. tried 9.3, which seems like its installed, but isn't.
Blimy, i thought i'd try this ati card from nvidia for the first time, and get nothing but problems i can do with out :D

I've always found with ATI cards I can still percieve the jaggies unless I turn the AA up one notch above what I use on nVidia :X

everything turned to max. i shouldn't get any at all ? didn't with my old 8800GTS. RMA MY CARD AS I SAID ANYWAY. NOT SURE IF I SHOULD GET A NVIDIA CARD, AS I CAN'T BE AS*ED WITH THIS CRAP GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

This is the second thread with a user having AA problems when going from NV to ATI on the same install.

There is something NV still left in the setup.

Another opportunistic snipe at ATI, Rroff.

I would have assumed that he would have tried all the AA settings, its only common sense when you don't notice change at a setting to use more of it until you do.

I ve seen this problem with my 3870! I turn on AA etc and it feels is not ON. I will try with the 4890 I got recently (still not installed) and see how it goes. It is frustrating, the least!

PS: I have been using ATI for the past few years.

Oh grow up this wasn't a snipe If you search these forums you'll notice I've mentioned this several times in the past including posting screenshots to back it up.

I remember & the review you pointed to said the opposite to your claims as i quoted the review you pointed to.

Which is all besides the point as its about the AA not working and not about the quality of the AA, so its a snipe & off topic.

Oh really.
what shall i use to get rid of it.. i tried Driver Sweeper beta, as the others dont seem to work with the vista 64bit. ? if i can't get this right, then i will have to get a refund and maybe get another nvidia card. i really want this card to work. i have to rma anyway, so might try the XFX one i guess.
p.s, i also getting tearing , v sync is on, but still tears. so maybe(hopfuly) it ave nvidia drivers left behind.
Cheers.

If its easier for you to get another NV can then do so.
I would fresh install personally.

The only way to be ABSOLUTELY sure that you cannot do anything more about it is to do a fresh minimal-windows-driver install and give it a try. I know is a mess but anything else is open to doubt :(

Hm this was one of my worries. Reason i went for nvidia againa as i didnt want to re-install windows.

Not really a reason if you ask me :(

I love computers and technology and re-installs is "part" of it. I would be more than happy to "explore" the problem instead. But then again, this is just me.

it wasn't a snipe or off topic - if he'd come from nvidia to ATI using lots of AA then equivalent settings on ATI might not give him the result he was expecting.

He is not getting any results with AA at all, so whether you think ATI needs more than NV is irrelevant.

well it was a reason for me because use my pc as a DAW aswell and i didnt want to have to reinstall all my software and samples and configurations again. Not for a while anyway.

My interpretation of:

was that he was seeing more jagged edges than he was used to, rather than every thing was jagged - that AA was broken rather than completely off.

You will interpret & quote in anyway that fits your agenda.
The full relevant quote.

I interpreted that it was off & in the subsequent reply from the OP it indeed is OFF.

There is no way in hell that the max AA setting on an 4980 could ever be different enough from an NV card for someone to think its not working or even partly.
There have been enough users for the last year moving between makes that if that was a fact it would have been plastered all over the place.
