I was about to agree a deal on a 16 plate Golf Match Edition Petrol Auto today from vw dealer with 3 years warrenty... however it turned out to be 1 year Volkswagen and 2 years AA Gold Warranty.

I pulled out of sale and will get back in touch with dealer tomorrow. I have heard that non dealer warranties are not great... anyone have experiance with AA?

You have to read the small print because 3rd party ones don't always cover the most expensive stuff, or parts most likely to break. So kinda worthless :p

Manufacturer ones are always better tbh.

I've just discovered today that aftermarket warranties are not really worth it! I would avoid to be honest, or atleast read everything so you know whats covered and what isn't.

Considering how bad manufacturers warranties are, third party ones must be dreadful

Depends, I bought a brand new Mini and the warranty was excellent. Any sign of an issue and they'd book it straight in for diagnostics and repair. Had a crankshaft bearing replaced (Think that was the name) and they resolved a couple of dashboard rattles which involved them taking the interior apart.

The VW warranty isn't expensive just renew it after the first year.

Isn't it the case that the "purchase later" VW warranties are not actually the same as the one you get if taken out at the same time as the car?
I was sure that I'd read that when somebody bought a VW they were offered an upgrade - 3yrs to 5yrs warranty, which they didn't take. Fast forward to the end of the initial 3yrs and they were offered a "2yr VW Warranty" however it covered only half the things the original one did and was actually underwritten by one of these 3rd party companies anyway.

BMWs is meant to be pretty darn good.

Hyundai's is good too to be fair, as is Kias

Seat extended warranty was brilliant for the 1.4tsi twin charger engine. It was £200 a year with 0 excess and more than covered its self, over 2 years:

*New mechatronics unit in the dsg
*New clutch pack (trying to fix the same issue as above.)
*New water pump which included the supercharger clutch.

Since then I have always gone manufacturer backed warranties.
