Would you buy a AMD 64 3500+ sckt 939, brand new, boxed, for £31 inc delivery?

I did.

Only just noticed its got the Newcastle core?

Have I made a massive error?

I have a 2600+ at the moment.

I was going to buy a 939 mobo anyway. My current is a Sckt A, (Abit NF7)

I will be flogging my 2600+ and mobo. (Any ideas, or is it just worth scrapping)

I just made an impulse buy. I saw the price, and thought it was a mistake... Until I realised the core... :-(

that is cheap

is your 2600+ a amd athlon xp? or a 939 chip

they never made a 2600 CPU for the 939 platform ;)

to the O.P. no its not a mistake as thats stupidly cheap... i just hope it works. as for your old mobo and chip, dont scrap em, hell come up with a good price (but dont post that price here, no trading outside of members market. i am avaiable to talk via e-mail) and i may have em off you :p

Newcastles run hotter, but they can still clock well, my old Newcastle 3500 did:
2.75ghz on water
2.65ghz on air

i couldnt be bothered googling, its too hot to google :p

Thanks peeps. It was one of those moments of impulse. One minute your looking, the next its on its way... Didnt even check the details...

Was going to buy a 3700+ san diego...

Well, thats an extra £70 saved. Perhaps an x1800gt instead of a x1800gto???
:D

i got a 3500+ newcastle on first day of availability in the uk, so first ever stepping, did 2.75Ghz water too. pretty much matches what a lot of people get on newer single core ath 64's so a very good deal,

True. It should work, its new, retail box! :D Always get refund if it doesnt.

I think it was the price that made me just buy it there and then. I wasnt building the new machine until september! I have been reading about the Newcastle core, and its not that bad.

No SSE3, but it will run adobe premier (at last....)

Erm, yeah. X1800xt. GT's are nVidia arnt they... :D

hrm.. since when were there 939 newcastles??

From Wiki:

"On June 1, 2004, AMD released new versions of both the ClawHammer and Newcastle core revisions for the newly-introduced Socket 939, an altered Socket 940 without the need for buffered memory[13]. Socket 939 offered two main improvements over Socket 754: the memory controller was altered with dual-channel architecture[14], doubling peak memory bandwidth, and the HyperTransport bus was increased in speed from 800 MHz to 1000 MHz[15]."
