last night i was gaming then all of a sudden there was a lound bang and loads of smoke coming from the back of the pc..... i nearly fell of my chair! couple of capasitors went.

psu blew up:mad:...... so i have bought a Coolermaster real power 850w modular.:D

problem is now im waiting for it to turn up so that i can find out if anything else has fried.....

Had a capacitor blow in a PSU in the workshop once about 8 years ago - it actually put a dent in the PSU casing!

It's quite a scary thing and certainly very loud too!

Unless you have another PC to try the parts in there's no real way to test them.

If it was a decent brand PSU then hopefully it shouldn't of taken anything with it.

Caps going bang, I've never had it happen to me, but they release a nasty gas also I think...

Yup, ozone and whatnot. Nothing that will harm you unless you spend the immediate five minutes after the pop breathing through a tube to the affected part though.

When I was working in PC World, someone took a machine in with a passthrough PSU - one that could supply power to a monitor [a CRT]. My colleague hooked it all up and powered the machine on, then hooked up the monitor. Bad move.

Got a nice, chunky shock from the PSU wetting itself, and the hand holding the power cable for the monitor took the brunt of it. Spent the next half hour hiding under a desk trying to keep out of the light.

Haha just read this title and thought " why in hell is he posting on a forum then? Go put it out"

Unlucky on the blowout, hope nothing else has gone.
