Ok, here's the final draft of the survey I've made, to help determine what features customers are interested in, and what they are willing to pay for:

https://freeonlinesurveys.com/s/0PZ2NmAF

The survey is quite heavily directed to enthusiast class customers, so the choices may include some special technological features and monikers. Please read the instructions carefully. If you're uncertain on any specific feature, then feel free to ask here, or you can also check from youtube or google. Or if there's anything else you're wondering about the survey, just drop a comment. Lots of helpful people here willing to answer your questions.

I will post the final results in this thread next Sunday, after people have had enough time to participate in the survey. Enjoy!

EDIT -- Additional note to people filling the survey:
If at all possible, please use the default options. The "Other" option is mainly for those cases that fall outside of the scale. There was a question about the preferred monitor size. Please understand that the "Other" answers will be regarded as text, and won't show in the numeric scales. So when there was a choice of 32" and 35", a couple of people chose "Other" and filled in 34". I would encourage people to use the 35" in those cases.

Done. I'd be surprised if you get an overall consensus though given the amount of options :P

I can see back light bleed and dead pixels being a top priority though given the current state of QC.

Why can't someone make a monitor with QLED backlighting, IPS + A-TW polarizer and glossy coating? The image quality would be amazing.
OLED isn't even viable yet for monitors so it's not even a real option. The Dell OLED was cancelled.

I think we should look at why OLED was cancelled. My theory is that it was because then they'd actually have to offer us a decent panel with no defects and that isn't as profitable as selling us crap at overinflated prices compared to TVs.

Screen size scales with resolution so maybe pixels per inch would be better. Also refresh rate scales with resolution too.

2880x1800
30-35" ish
100Hz ish
Non GPU vendor locked VVR. 45-100Hz.
Minimalist all matte black design.
Zero BLB
No more than a single dead pixel.
Minimal IPS glow. When I'm sat head on should be zero.
Matte coating.
8Ms ~ response time. Less might be nice, but meh not going to matter.

3-5 year no BS warranty. Any problems should be dealt with in one call less than 15 minutes. A replacement monitor should take no longer than 48 hours to arrive. Ideal scenario. 10 minute phone call and next day exchange.

The option of extending the warranty for a reasonable price would be nice.

Don't care about running a monitor at sub 45-50Hz as it makes my eyes bleed. Over 90Hz and I can't notice any difference.

Zero lighting and speakers.

Price. £600-700~

Yeah, I actually thought about the PPI/DPI. But it would complicate matters quite a lot. First of all, the resolution, diagonal size and PPI would still be only part of the picture. You would also have to factor in viewing distance and eye sight. Anyway, the survey is already active, can't change options anymore without resetting the responses.

As for initial sneak-peek results, I don't want to spill too much so that it won't affect the rest of the voters, but here are few expected tid-bits that probably won't change:
- TN is the least wanted panel type
- DisplayPort is by far the most coveted connection
- VGA and Thunderbolt are not
- Integrated Speakers are quite unwanted
- Both Passive and Active 3D are very unpopular

Done. I want a lot of nice things, so I've left an upper price limit of £1k. Many of the features in the last sections like the colour 8-bit/10-bit, response time, etc, are things I've never heard of in monitors (obviously not the ones I've just now listed, but other stuff like remote and some very specific features). I would absolutely love to have a remote for a monitor. Makes using it much easier, given that I normally sit far away from it currently.

Next monitor I'd buy would be 4k, 100Hz+, IPS/OLED, 40+", FreeSync at the very least (also would be nice if it had a remote and had HDR). But I bet it'll be at least 5 years until such a monitor arrives. Also don't know why options like 4:3 resolutions and under 1080p were on the list of resolutions. I can't imagine anyone wanting anything under 1080p on a monitor. Maybe on a phone or tablet, but not a PC monitor.

Ok people, last chance to participate in the survey. Tomorrow (sometime in the afternoon, probably) I'll take a snapshot of the statistics, arrange them somewhat, and then release them on the forums (evening, probably).

Good work.

If I select "deal-breaker" does it mean it's a deal-breaker if the monitor DOES have the feature, or it's a deal-breaker if it DOESN'T? I'll look very foolish if it's the former.
