Hi guys,

I've been interested in derelict building/urban decay photography and exploration for quite some time, and I would very much like to pay a visit somewhere for a spot of picture taking with a couple of people, but sadly most of the good places seem to have been demolished or re-purposed.

Having only heard about Hellingly the other day thanks to Mr. Hyburnate, and it transpiring that it was quite close by, and unbeknown to me was the subject of some pictures I had saved, I was heartbroken to hear that it had been demolished.

The trouble with these sites like http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/ is that you don't know when things are no longer accessible, or indeed there at all.

I don't want to break the law so criminal trespass or forced entry are completely out of the question.

Are there any places around here? Is Lillisden school in the same state it was in a couple of years ago?

Examples of the kind of thing I'm interested in:

So as long as OP doesn't break anything (which constitutes criminal damage) and leaves if he's asked he's ok.

e; Also I did a search on TP and came up with nothing that was OP's style :(

Most abandoned/derelict buildings would be good, though those examples in the OP are the most akin to my interests.

I think this obsession for exploring abandoned places may have stemmed from my love of Fallout 3. :p

Ok, here's some.

COCKING LIMEWORKS
Bellersby College
Carmelite Convent
Littlehampton Comprehensive School (Is this where you went to school?)
Graylingwell Hospital

I had always wanted to visit Hellingly Asylum, but it got ripped down before I got the chance. I love urbex, plenty of cold war & WWI/II locations close to me :)

Here is one I did from a location about 20 mins away - RAF Ruldoe Manor

OH MY GOD did they demolish Denbigh Hospital in North Wales?!

That place was an beautiful example of historic architecture and the cost of renovating it was sub £1M, a fraction of what the site would have been worth afterwards!

Please tell me they didnt? :(

e; There is a news story in 2008 saying it had been demolished, but it is apparently still in the same state. The internet is so hopeless.

This report from 4 days ago suggests otherwise

My mates dad used to work there. That man is craaaaaaaaaaaazy.

I can't say I think much of most urban decay stuff. Most of the time it's purely bragging rights for trespassing, with nothing visually impressive. Occasionally the odd nice thing pops up though, with a genuinely impressive eye for photography. There seems to be a trend of vastly over processing the images to the point where they look like drawings, which makes me wonder why people even bother.

Did you check the links in the OP? Do your thoughts on urban decay photography apply? :)

I would be up for visiting if you wanted to get a few of us together for a trip? I'd suggest 4-5 as not to make a scene while wondering.

As you're offline, perhaps doing a search here (or just drooling over it) may help. What about Bedham Church?

I'm saving that one, it's stunning! :)

Thanks. Looks like it could still be worth a visit. A little concerned about falling through the floor though. :p

As for the idea to go to Denbigh, if we all meet somewhere where we can leave our cars then car-share up there and split the fuel bill then sure!

Seems a bit of a shame to go to North Wales and only visit one place though. Sure we could find other things.
