Hi there,

I have a chipset cooler on its way and I am wondering what I need to do to fit it to my AB9 Pro motherboard?

Do I need to remove the whole of the heatpipe system or do I just need to remove the northbridge heatsink which is in the picture?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

u will have to remove the entire heatpipe and cut the sliver pipe were ever you want to and then re apply the other half to the board.

At least i think this is the way its done, I wont know for a few days untill my AB9 arrives.

Mish, is the heat sink at the top over the VRMs? Or is it just put there to get some of the air moving from the CPU HSF?

I would have thought that you would have to remove the northbridge bit and the pipe, but how does the pipe fit to the heatsink at the top of the picture?

It's over the VRMs. I don't see the need to change it as it seems to do at least as good a job the pipe on the DS4.

Hadn't realised people had been posting on this thread! I originally made it on the 6th/7th march lol. The whole reason I'm going to be upgrading the northbridge is cause I'm pretty much obliged to review the northbridge and other items Noctua have given me. That said, the current temps I recieve whilst overclocked are only 22-25C. I doubt that will get much lower with a after-market NB cooler.

Noctua gave him a free one after he gave them a review of their CPU HSF
How come? Was that for a review on here or for a publication?

Watch out with vreg heatsinks, the thermal interface material you use must be electrically non conductive, otherwise the whole thing will go up in smoke.

The review was for here, but I wrote him a paragraph send to them which Mishima used to convince them to part with a few freebies!

Here is the thread...

VREG heatsinks? What are they? I will most likely be using Thermalright paste that I have a tube of in my drawer. Not sure whether its non-conductive though.

The cpu voltage regulators. The bit by the cpu is the voltage regulator heatsink. If you replace that, you have to either use the existing paste or some other special electrically non-conductive paste. I doubt the thermalright paste is electrically non-conductive.

Won't be a problem if you just cut the heatpipe, but i'm not sure how you'll do that without getting the working fluid everywhere...
If you remove the whole thing to cut the heatpipe, i don't know if the thermal paste they have used will be reusable, even if it is it won't be as effective as it should be if you reuse it.
