Hey,

Does anyone know if Abit will be updating their BIOS's to support the Phenom II's?

I have an A-N78HD and haven't bought a CPU for it yet. It has to be an 125W CPU with this motherboard, so I can go for the I was wondering if I should go for the 9850 now, or wait until and update and pick up a Phenom II with a 920 or 940.

I know Abit are no longer operating, but I think I read somewhere that they are still paying some people for the next year...

Thanks,

kD.

I wouldn't hold my breath for BIOS updates. They've got no real reason to open up their boards for new chips now.

I just got an email from Abit with a beta BIOS for my motherboard that supports the new Phenom II's. Looks like I will be ordering a Phenom II 940 :)

Eeek, my backup rig just got more powerfull than my main rig...

Only just saw your reply. Sorry mine is a few weeks late!

I have just ordered my Phemon II 940, so I should be playing around with it next week :)

Where do you want me to email the beta BIOS to?

I had thought of this already - chicken and egg type of problem :)

I was hoping that the motherboard would boot in some way with the CPU, but it obviously won't recognise it as at Phenom II.

If that doesn't work, I have a work friend who has a AMD Athlon X2 6400 (I think, its something like that at least). I will have to stick his CPU in, flash the BIOS then swap back for mine new one.

Has anyone been in this situation before?

Not up with the AMD's but I know some intel motherboards wont boot with the newer processors until the bios is changed using an older processor....

Still at least you have a fallback plan :D

Best of luck...

Yup.

I just had this with my new Asus M3N-HT mobo but i didn't run the Phenom until after the bios update!

Bought a cheapo LE1600 AM2 to run the board and flash the bios. Once done i installed the 720 and was up and running. The reason i didn't try the PII before the flash was due to me not wanting to damage either the board or CPU.
