Afternoon!
Just a day or so ago, i've started to have problems with the SATA side of things on my Abit AV8 (X2 4200 Cpu, 1gb Ocuk ram, 460W Akasa psu).
I've got a sata 200gb Seagate and a sata 250gb Seagate plugged in as boot drive and extra storage respectively. I also have a 120gb ide Seagate (more storage) and a Samsung DVD-RW drive plugged in the ide ports.
I did have a blip where the sata drives weren't being picked up at boot last year some time, but within a minute or so it had sorted itself out.
As I say above, a day or so ago, it was all fine, and all of a sudden an XP bsod appeared, saying a problem with atapi.sys. Rebooted, ok for a half hour, bsod and 0x0000000F. This happened a number of times getting much more frequent until the drives are no longer being picked up by the bios. I've updated the bios to the latest (ver 28 although I had ver 27 on there), drives appeared, booted, then in windows it locked and on reboot they'd gone. Now, very very very occasionally they'll show up (or one will show up) and occasionally boot but sometimes it stops whilst loading windows (even though the progress bar carries on!) I've also tried another PSU, a brand new 330w Tagan, but with the bare minimum plugged in), and different ram also!
I'm posting this via XP being booted on a trusty old 13gb ide drive (never had any trouble with ide, touch wood)!
Does it sound like the SATA controller on the mainboard has given up? The drives are ok as i've checked them on an Asus A8V i've got, but i'd prefer not to have to reinstall everything on a new board. I've got a pci sata card coming hoping this will rectify the problem. Don't really want to start upgrading as this setup is fast enough for me at the minute (plus I can't really afford it!)
Sorry for the lengthy post!
Cheers, Tony
