Abit Fatality Problems.

Trying to help a friend who has problems
Cant find anything in the manual...
I get one instant short beep and then nothing. The counter on the mobo doesnt count down at all.

Abit Fatality AA8XE
Intel Pentium D840 1mb cache S775
2x512mb Major PC2 5300
MSI ATI800RXL

take out gfx card and ram....see if the beep changes
if it does fit gfx...try again....then 1 stick of ram....etc etc

hmmmz apart from clearing the cmos it sounds like the board

Perhaps I should add that the beep occurs INSTANTLY after pressing power on.

still sounds like the board....try removing all non-essential cables from the board and try again, maybe even try another psu if you can......

The board makes that beep when you switch the psu on (that is normal). The post/booting process (when the N4 fan starts and the board numbers count down) should start when you switch it on at the case. So therefeore the power switch (or cable) from the case to the board may be faulty or attached the wrong way round or on the wrong pins (but i presume you have checked that?).
