Today I am the very proud owner of the above Mobo after a lot of sourcing. What id like to know is will my Thermalright SI-120 actually fit? I can see that there isnt much space on either side of this, and wonder if I will need to again buy something else other than using the stock cooler?

AC Freezer 4 definitely fits. But the SI-120 is much better if you can get it to fit.

Well it fits onto a plain IC-7 so I guess it will also fit ionto the max3. It's a tight fit though and can only really be fitted safely outside of the case.

On this Max 3 it cannot be fitted, the guy has tried but it looks like it can only take the stock cooler, which might not be so bad considering the gadgets which this thing has to cool it down

Another note on this card (not sure if it should be a separate thread) there seems to be a big problem with my Gainward 6800GT card from working. with the old card before it went was working fine, but im wondering if something untoward has happened to it? Im hoping that I wont have to pay for another AGP card if this is the case

It wasnt detecting it at all, and now he has used a basic Radeon card, its picked it up and its all fine. Right pain installing all the RAID controllers etc as the drivers dont appear to be on the mobo disk. Are they somewhere else?

Firstly, the Thermalright SI-120 should fit alright, a quote from the Thermalright web site:

The only exception is ABIT AI7 board due to the socket orientation

What you can do to make it easier is remove the OTES cover.

I recently bought this motherboard, the Intel stock heatsink/Fan does alright, but not great, I am going to put the Thermalright XP-90 on with an 80mm fan with a rheostat, although, Thermalright recommend a Panaflo 92mm fan.

Regarding the problem with your Gainward graphics card, when i first fitted everything onto the MAX3, it would not even post, the problem was the graphics card had come out of the socket of the motherboard a bit, far enough to stop the system booting.

Regarding the RAID controller, sorry if this is not obvious to me, but which RAID controller are you referring to, the ICH5R or the Silicon? With my motherboard, I got the installation CD + a "floppy" with the ICH5R & Silicon 3114 drivers on to use when seeting up RAID, using F6, however, I did not set up RAID on the Silicon cont, just using 2 X 200GB Seagate Barracudas SATA as ATA, however for the Silicon 3114 drivers, I went Here and used version 1008. The software for monitoring the HDDs on the Silicon con, I installed from the installation CD.

I set up 2 X Raptors on the ICH5R using the drivers on the floppy using F6 during Windows XP installation.

Hope these comments help you. :)
