Abit in liquidation?

they said they were getting out of the motherboard market awhile back, someone probably just realised and decided to be a drama queen

I don't own any Abit hardware fortunately. But I have done in the past, they used to make great motherboards, one of the best early overclocking boards I had was an Abit (NF7) I think to clock my Barton 2500.

Shame to see them go under, if its the case. Can only see it driving prices up.

I was thinking competitor prices up with there being less competition. However I suppose there is still enough manufacturers out there to keep it competitive, so the likely outcome will be no change.

Haha, yeah I know what you meant :p

And I'm saying there should be some damn fine Abit bargins poping up if you don't mind having a warranty, hell why not buy an extra as a spare.

No manufacturer warranty ... but retailer will still have liabiity under sales of goods etc

Depends how they sell them, most likley will be sold with 7 or 14 day warranty. They would not sell with 12 months warranty knowing they can't get them repaired/replaced.

I'm pretty sure they can as long as it is presented at the point of sale.

I guess anybody that has a board at the moment will at least get a credit if it goes faulty providing there are no replacements left in the channel.

abit was owned by USI which is certainly continuing (it's a major, major company) & at least in the US abit warranty work was already being handled by USI so I imagine if this is true that's probably the model that would be followed elsewhere.

edit: just read the article in question & noted "We did speak to someone in the finance department who didn't want to reveal her name. She confirmed that not only has abit not been selling mainboards since the start of the year, but has stopped selling any products whatsoever and the office is only being kept going to handle warranties."
