this board only lets me boot (from switching on from the plug) if there is no usb devices (keyboard/mouse) plugged in or unless i take ram out to leave one stick in

anyone have an idea which bios setting to adjust

dont tell me to update the bios as i dont have a floppy drive anymore :(

I'm reading your post and thinking....no keyboard plugged in how is he going to change anything anyway?
Or are we saying it boot with keyboard in with one stick of ram?
Is the keyboard USB?

Duh me....it's late...only boot without USB mouse and keyboard :)

What memory are you using? Sounds like it may need a few more volts for starters, but dont go mad.
You could also look at http://www.memtest86.com/download.html
ISO makes CD, so don't worry about floppy.

Also try clearing CMOS.

i got 4 sticks of geil 1gb ull 800mhz ram
it blue screens everytime with 4 sticks in but is ok with 2 sticks(looks like il have to flog 2gb to a friend)

its ok if i leave power to the motherboard but have to unplug the mouse and keyboard to boot eveytime i switch off at the wall!

i suppose it could be worse it!

I have your mobo and Geil Black Dragon RAM. The mobo supplies voltage to DDR2 at a default of 1.8v. My RAM is rated at v1.9-2.0. Your's may be different - please check. Then adjust the DDR2 voltage in the BIOS as necessary (boot with just two sticks to make the change if necessary.)

Have a read here..
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC is the ram?

One thing to consider, the system was beeping like mad with ram errors on 1st boot as I forgot to increase voltage by 0.3 to the recommended 2.1v

I know this motherboard / memory combo likes more than standard volts....See thread.
One last thing...Vista or XP (64 or 32 etc)

To use 4 GB of RAM Sam you need a 64 bit version of windows.

Also... if you are installing vista64 with 4GB of ram then you need to install it with 2GB then install a patch and then put the extra 2GB in if you don't you will get a BSOD!

Food for thought :)

hi split

im using vista 23bit

i did try running that patch with 2gb installed but it said the patch didnt apply to my system when i tried to run it

maybe i should have tried with 4gb installed!

I have vista64 with 4GB of ram and just put the 4gb in when installing with no patch no problems no BSOD. and yeah Geil ull is at 2.1v as previous post. :)

Stange one this....if you read that other thread he couldn't get windows to install and run stable unless he upped the voltage, yet no errors in memtest.
I guess this ram just likes a bit more power.

It could have been worse...it may not have booted until the voltage was upped in the BIOS with different ram.

Yeah I guess the ram does then - I guess memtest doesn't run it with enough oomph a bit strange
