my MOBO has -

7.1 CH HD audio codec: realtec ALC888

i dont understand if this is any good its all kinda confusing :confused: will the sound on the MOBO be the same quality as a £30 sound card?
 
Integrated will NEVER be better than a recent dedicated soundcard. Whether you can tell the difference though is a different kettle of fish.
 
If you have a £30 sound card and 5.1 there will be a big diffrence but if you only have 2 speakers then there would be little point.:)
 
If you use some headphones you'll be able to tell the difference, you'll pick up a loaad of interference on onboard, usually.

I'm buying a dedicated DAC/Headphone amp for my phones so I can get clean sound, it's worth it.
