Looking to build a new system and have been recommended these motherboards, what are the essential differences between them i've had a read but can't really spot them lol.

Dont get them im having awful problems with the IP35-E right now, you also get a bonus double boot with them which is frustrating. :)

The abit IP-35 pro is a highly good board. The double boot problem is being fixed with new bios updates and as far as im aware it only seems to be happening with antec powersupplys?

The IP-35 pro is very stable and overclock like a dream. Id recomend the IP-35 pro to anyone that asked. I did a lot of research on reviews and asking around. Many reviews i read put it above the gigabytes.

what problems? i have just been and purchased the abit ip35 from OcUK, I asked the guy on the desk which board to get between the ip35 and Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P.. he said the abit boards are very good, very few problems with them!

I haven't opened the box yet, perhaps I should swap it with the gigabyte!

Cannot get signal on my monitor, tried know working GFX cards still no good, been at it for 5 hours now with no joy.

i am getting double boot with IP35-e, using an (ancient) antec 550w psu.

Otherwise i have had zero problems

What GFX (sorry to hijack thread) im trying to get an 8400 running and it will not give me a signal on VGA or DVI

I think there's a bios update that fixes the problem. I mentioned this to the guy at OcUK he knew nothing of it!

There is a Beta Bios that fixes the double boot issue but i cant get mine to give a GFX signal and im not the only one having this issue with this board.

double-boot is a known issue iwth IP35 IP35-E boards, there's a fix on the Abit forum:

btw, the older and certainly the lower power Antec PSUs also have known issues with these boards.

I have an Antec 850 Quattro plugged into my IP35 Pro, and I've no snags whatsoever. Its a tremendous board, I can't recommend it highly enough.

The cheaper ones do not seem to be as good as the Pro. They do seem to suffer from several 'buggy bios' issues. Personally, I'm hugely impressed with my IP-35 Pro, but it's not worth the extra £35 over a Gigabyte P35-DS4. The DS4 V1.0 is better than the V1.1, so get it now, while you still can.

cheers for that link.

So did I make the right choice going for the ip35? I was gonna get the Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P. OcUK recommend the ip35.

sucks having to flash the bios on a brand new board.

Im running an Enermax Liberty 400W, all it needs to power is the 8400, HDD and a DVD drive, but it womt give me a display, ive ruled all the components bar the mobo, looks like ive just been unlucky and got a duff one.

IP35-E has ICH9 so no RAID
IP35 has ICH9R (so Intel Matrix RAID), firewire, different chipset cooling, solid caps around the CPU
IP35 Pro has ICH9R, firewire, different again cooling, all solid caps, dual Gb LAN, 2nd physical x16 PCI-E slot (x4 electrical), 2x eSATA, external clearCMOS switch, uGuru

They're all great boards & yes, the beta BIOS fixes the IP35-E/IP35 double boot.

topher, if you got an Asus or a Gigabyte you would probably want to flash the BIOS on those too as there will have been improvements since the board was shipped from the factory.
