ok so this is my first build. ive put it all together, think ive got everything then tried to power it on. nothing. on the motherboard there is one led constant when i power on. nothing else happens, no fans spin up on either gpu or cpu, no beeps. nothing.

just wondering what this led means. cannot find anything in the manual or on the internet.

any ideas? cheers guys

just built an ip35,have you plugged all power connectors required into the mobo and if you can get into bios set memory voltage manually

I would first be looking at the power supply then. If possibly can you test the power supply you have on the machine you are currently running in the new machine? I would just connect it, then power up and see if the system starts, if it does then just power down and then go back to the original psu you just bought.

If the above does happen then I would do a paperclip test on the corsair psu to check it's not dead. You can do this by getting an ordinary paperclip and putting it into the correct pins of the motherboards 24pin atx connector. When you do that the fan should spin on the power supply, if it doesn't and you have the paperclip in the correct places then it would indiciate that the power supply is dead. You can find a tutorial of how to do that here.

I would also double check that the switch on the back of the power supply is set to on, in case it has been shipped to you with it being set to off, so just flick the switch on the back of the unit and retry powering up.

Also make sure you have the 4/8pin connector plugged into the motherboard as dalex suggest.

from the psu to the mother board i have the 24 pin and the 8 pin connected and the psu is switched on at the back (next to where you attach the power lead.

one thing i havnt done is connect all the jumpers from the case to the mb. i have the power and reset button jumper connected but none of the hdd lights, power button lights etc. dont think that would make a difference though would it?

No they shouldn't make a difference.

Have you tried connecting a 4 pin molex to the connector just above the graphics card slot?

i hadnt, wasnt sure what that was for. just tried it though and nothing. any idea what the one constant led on the motherbaord indicates? thanks for your help so far guys

if it's the red 5VSB it just means that the board is live.
Irc you should get a green VCC LED when the board is running.

As you are getting absolutely nothing I would be looking at the PSU or the switch.
You should also check that the board isn't shorting out on the case/a standoff etc.

update: - tried unplugging everything and re-seating it and it works now. only problem is im having trouble making the sata driver disk that is needed to install my hd when installing windows.

instructions say to boot from cd drive (check)
then gives a list of options, one of which being (1) 'create driver disk'

thing is when i type go to select option one, by pressing the 1 key, nothing happens. no response at all. same if i try to select any of the other options.

only thing i can think of is that the keyboard is plugged in via usb as i dont have one of the ps2 connectors but would this make any difference at all on a clean install?

sounds like you need to select USB support "BY BIOS" in the BIOS - the catch is that you probably need a PS/2 kb to do that.

another quick update. think i have a dodgy stick of ram, when installing windows xp it was giving me an error which the ms knowledge base pointed towards bad ram.

tried taking one out then the other and indeed would boot and install with one stick, and crash with the other. pain in the arse but hey, could be a lot worse, the system is up and running albeit on just 1gb of ram, just need to rma the other.

thanks a lot for your help guys, for a first time builder its very reasuring to have people willing to help you out.

cheers!
