Hi,
I have come back to my pc after being away for a while (travelling) and decided that i wanted to have my Sata drive (samsung SP1614C) as my master and swap my IDE drives to my slaves for storage.
When i first got my Sata drive a few years back i did have trouble then with installing and stability issues while using the sata as a master, i think at the time it was becuase the abit kv7 motherboard was one fo the first to support a sata drive as master and it turned out that their were some teething trouble.
I did manage to install windows on my SATA drive while it was attached to the on board SATA controller although it only lasted about 5 reboots then i couldn't load windows as it was saying it could pick up the SATA drive at boot up. So i ordered a PCI SATA controller card to see if it made it any easier to to install the SATA drive but this arrived yesterday and i have had no success getting windows to install on it.
Things i have done:
1 - I have made sure the Bios is up to date.
2 - I have press f6 when installing windows to install the sata drivers.
3 - searched the internet about any abit kv7 problems, i have found similar problems to mine but none with a solution.
4 - followed the viaareana.com install guide but this has not worked.
5 - tried different cables
6 - in bios selected add-on bootable device first.
The SATA drives works normal if i have my IDE drives working as master.
I know this is an old motherboard, but was wondering if their are any other people who had problems and could give a possible solution
thanks
Tim
