Hi, I have just rebuilt my system with an Abit KV8pro mobo. I want to create some rescue disks (FDs)but the FDD doesn't think it has a disk in. Windows thinks it's there and working properly. I have tried another unit but the same thing happens. Any ideas please

as above.

green light on perma means you have the data cable the wrong way round.

as a general rule of thumb the pin with the line on the data cable red/black is pin one, this should normally be next to the power connector.

Thanks

Thanks guys.

It would appear that the mobo socket is cabled back to front. I tried two FDDs, and two cables, none of them worked with the cable fitted correctly, lug to notch. I've had to gently force the cable on to the FDD upside down.
It now works a treat.

That's odd- one thing I've never seen before  You have got the twist in the cable closest to the drive and not the motherboard have you? Glad you got it sorted though :)

The lugs on the plugs mean that it will only fit in one orientation no matter which end you plug in to the mobo.

I have just check it again. With the plug correctly orientated on the mobo, lug in the slot on the socket (only one slot), the plug has to be reversed on the FDD - pin1/red furthest from the power lug opposite the slot (again only one slot).

It certainly had me confused. :)

No no, that's not what I'm getting at- there is a twist three quarters of the way down the data cable- this twist should be closest to the disk drive NOT the motherboard as it will make a difference :)

There is no visible twist in the round cable, but there is in the flat cable supplied. Tried the flat cable as suggested (twist closest to the FDD), no change. It's only when I invert the cable and plug in that it clears the fault. :)
