I've just installed Vista and some of my games are stuttering all over the place, so I'm trying to get 2GB in there.

I currently have 2 x 512MB Corsair XMS3200LLPT TwinX dual channel and wondered if I could put another 1GB into the spare slot, should I just stick another 512MB in the spare slot, or sell it and buy a new 2GB dual channel kit?

I don't have the dosh to rebuild my whole system at the moment.

Cheers.

Due to financial restrictions and how much I can get for my Corsair, would 2G of cheapish Samsung/Kingston/Crucial be ok, I know they won't really be overclockable, but should still make a fair difference, or would I be much better off forking out for 2G of decent Corsair/OCZ?

I don't have Vista but I can help anyway I think.

I had exactly the same Mobo and situation on my WinXp box.

I had 1gb of "oldish" corsair memory from when I bought the PC.

Games like WOW and Planetside were starting to stutter and I decided to buy some more memory.

I eventually decided on 2gb of the OCZ stuff purchased from Overclockers, thinking I could use this new 2gb and 0.5gb of the old stuff to have 2.5gb.

After many hours of forum reading and experimentation I came to the conclusion that unless you buy "exactly" the same memory this mix-match approach just wont work.

It was all to do with memory timings. The newer memory, although being "a cheaper brand" run at much faster speeds. I couldn't make this under perform to match the old stuff and I couldn't over clock the old stuff to match the new.

In the end I put all my old stuff into a drawer and just settled for the new 2GB. Yes it did make a huge difference to my gaming.
