Hey all.

I've been here on and off for years, but this is my new account, so Hi

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the fastest two CPUs I could stick in my old VP6?

I'm sure someone must know, eBay beckons me. :p

Cheers all.

The fastest really depends on the bus speed you're going to run. I can't recall if Intel actually released a 133fsb part that ran at 1ghz. I had 2 700s running at 933 and used a 1ghz on it's own (100 fsb).

The Tualatins are not supported and I'm sure you know that Celerons don't run in SMP mode (unless its a Celeron based on the P2 core but these maxed out under 600mhz anyway).

So if you can snag some 1ghz's that run at 100fsb thee will probably be the "fastest". The memory can be run at 133 asynch' and the max supported is 2gb. I had mine maxxed out with 4*512's at 933 and it was a nice setup when it ran - but it was never 100% stable. The board is in the loft and the cpus got given away to my brothers as I got fed up trying.

good luck

I've no idea, it probably still exists, but I've changed email addresses, houses, and couldn't remember my log in name anyway :p

Cheers for the help, I'll keep an eye out. It was just something I fancied doing, as I've had the VP6 running a Celly 2 700 @ 1154 for years and just fancied using both sockets! :D

either grab another celly 2 so 2x1150 or go for some 133fsb 1ghz cpu's which will clock even further and 133fsb's provide faster bandwidth anyway ;)

Celeron 2's cannot run in SMP mode so that's a non starter.

Whilst theoretically you are right about the higher fsb offering better bandwidth, the VIA chipset and it's implementation of the Memory and PCI bus is so poor that there isn't any real benefit between 100 and 133. If your cpus are 100fsb ones, the memory can be ran asynchronously , but it's really not that big a difference.

I think OcUK had the best idea with the VP6, stick a couple of 700s in and clock them to 933. Cheaper and not far off the 2* 1ghz.
