Mother convicted of mutilating her 3 year old daughter!

This revolting practice has been officially illegal for a very long time in the UK, the idea that somehow this is the first case that has ever been successfully taken to trial is astonishing!

Frankly she, and anybody else who was involved in this, should remain in a prison cell until long after their bones have dissolved to dust before even being considered for any sort of parole or release!

13 years is about 300 too little! :(

(Along with these charmers who tried to throw acid over a Baby FFS! )

so 1 nutcase cuts up her daughter of ~3 years of age and another arranged to have acid squirted on his ~3 year old son and several adults agreed to help and carry out the attack :(.....what in the name of good **** goes on in some peoples minds?! there is no punishment strong enough, violent enough or painful enough that could be visited upon these people imo. rehabilitation, I would argue, should not be a consideration in such cases given the severity and downright evilness of the attacks. admittedly the mother who fgm'd her daughter is clearly off her trolley, back magic/witchcraftery to silence those who investigated her - that's beyond words. obviously needs psychiatric evaluation but you aren't ever going to fix such a broken mind. i'd agree with the op - never should see the light of day again.
as for the other story, that's just a 100% gutless, cowardly excuse of a human being. he hadn't even the balls to do it himself. 30mins in a windowless room with the right person, a block hammer, some scalpel blades and a catering pack of vinegar and i'm sure he would see the error of his ways.

Circumcision doesn’t even compare to FGM. Circumcision is done to many people by the NHS for health reasons.

That's only true for some forms of FGM the law outlaws all 'circumcision' of women but not men.

Type 4 FGM is defined as follows (and still illegal in the UK)

  • Other harmful procedures to the female genitals, including pricking, piercing, cutting, scraping or burning the area.
Women can have surgery on their genitalia for 'medical reasons' aswell so that bits irrelevant to the practice of elective male circumcision.

In a perfect world It would be better if we had NO ad hoc amateur surgery of children's genitals by religious zealots,
but male circumcision does at least have a few advantages and no disadvantages.

It is indeed a problem and a worry that some of these greatly needed doctors, nurses and engineers also engage in witchcraft and mutilate their daughters on the kitchen table, but needs must...

What the hell are you on about?

IIRC there have been no instances of medical professionals in the UK being convicted of it and the only case where a prosecution was tried against one it basically fell apart as the doctor was doing a normal processes in a hospital after a birth.

There is defined tissue change to the glans over time, your concept of no disadvantage when you multitate and remove part of a body unnecessaliary is odd. Medical exemptions apply.

Surgery always carried some risk and I can guarantee you that some men have suffered very badly as a result of botched circumcision or infections as a result of them...

Like in the USA where male circumcision has been quiet widely practiced...

In the United States, circumcision is a commonly performed procedure. It is a relatively safe procedure with a low overall complication rate. Most complications are minor and can be managed easily. Though uncommon, complications of circumcision do represent a significant percentage of cases seen by pediatric urologists. Often they require surgical correction that results in a significant cost to the health care system. Severe complications are quite rare, but death has been reported as a result in some cases.

We don't whip out babies tonsils and appendixes on the basis that their removal may have some health benefits because we also acknowledge the risks of the surgery in the 1st place.

The positives outweight the negatives for the loss of a shred of flesh: Improved genital hygiene, aestheticly more pleasing phallus , strong evidence that male circumcision is associated with a reduced risk of genital HPV infection in men and with a reduced risk of cervical cancer in women, notably among women with high-risk partners, a less sensitive glans prolongs love-making and lessens the chance of the dreaded premature ejaculation, and, most importantly, the ability to pee straight.
