I am about to purchase the following parts and want to make sure I'm not doing something silly like buying incompatible parts or over/under specing a component.

Proposed spec

Mobo : Abit IN9 32X-MAX.
CPU : C2D 6600 (want to OC to ~3GB).
CPU Cooler : Zalman CNPS9700-LED Aero Flower
RAM : Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB) (want to run 1066 which is rated speed for this RAM).
Graphics : BFG GeForce 8800 GTX (want to be able to run SLi in future)
HD : Western Digital Raptor X 150GB WD1500AHFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache (will buy larger non-SATA drive for data later)
PSU : Enermax Galaxy 1000W EGA1000EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU (want to be able to run SLi in future and not run out of oomph)
Case : Akasa Eclipse 62 + 2 x Akasa AK-183-L2B Amber Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin

Not going to OC significantly (only the CPU).

Any advice would be very much appreciated :)

will be an absolute monster, but i would get the bfg 680 and spend the difference on the evga 8800 gtx ko overclocked.

not to sure about the cpu cooler either my acf7 is sound

I really wanted one of the reference 680i boards, but have been following all the problems on the EVGA forums. I know the Abit board is new, but early reports are looking good.

I'm just worried I will get issues if I buy EVGA, ASUS or BFG (or any of the other Foxxconn boards).

I know what you mean about the cooler - was going to go for the acf7 initially, but I prefer the look of the Zalman... but without a side window in the case, I guess that doesn't matter too much :p Was there anything specific about the 9700 that would make it a bad choice?

Thanks for your feedback - very much appreciated :D

no mate ive just not heard much about them, and every one swears by the acf7 and at £16.44 ya cant go wrong IMO

ive had no prob with my evga 680i so ive got nowt but praise for them, and i belive early problems were sorted with revised bios

Have changed back to acf7 - saving a bit of cash too :D

I hear what you are saying about the EVGA board - there are many that have had no issues whatsoever, even with earlier BIOS releases. But there are still people having issues with cold boots and PS2 keyboards (and I think some other issues too). I really wanted the EVGA board, but have been put off a bit I guess. I'm spending a lot of cash and just want everything to work correctly. I think people are having more issues with the faster RAM too.

I was also worried that the problems on the Foxxconn boards might have been caused by a reference board design issue and could not be resolved with BIOS updates.

If you're OCing the CPU, it might be worthwhile spending the little extra and go for the Tuniq Tower or Scythe Ninja coolers instead :)

Was thinking of the Tuniq too, but heard there was issues with the Abit mobo. Aparantly, the NB heatsink gets in the way when the Tuniq is mounted blowing towards the back of the case?

Plus, stinka suggested the acf7 which has great reviews. Is this cooler up the the job when overclocking?

Thanks for the advice guys :)

ACF7 will allow you to hit 3Ghz ok, as I have done, and I could go higher. It's not the best but it's great value for the performance it gives :)
However looking at how much you're spending already, I guess you're looking for value parts
Edit:I guess you're NOT looking for value parts is what i meant to say

OK, maybe I'll go for something other than the acf7. Don't the CPU to get too hot, so will probably go with the Zalman... Apparently, there is an issue with fitting the Tuniq onto this motherboard :(
