Hi all,

Since Wednesday after I sold my PC, for the first time in about 15 years, I havent got anything to play games on! Looking to rectify this next week, just want something casual and cheap to waste a few hours on when I have the time, so the DS or PSP would suit this criteria perfectly. After reading various threads here ive decided to go for the DS Lite, ive got a few questions I would be most grateful if someone could answer for me.

Firstly, I can probably only afford to buy one game (perhaps two at a stretch) at the moment, so im looking to get something thats addictive, fun and that im not going to get bored of after a week. It would also be nice if I could play the game online also to try that out. Im thinking perhaps Mario Kart but im open to all suggestions over any genre.

Secondly, ive been reading up about the DS online and people saying its a bit of a pain to get working without the official USB dongle, is this true? Ive got a simple WEP protected Linksys 54g wireless router, should I be ok? A big factor of me buying a handheld console is to be able to browse the net wirelessly, very impressed with the soon released Opera DS browser.

Thanks in advance.

mario kart, metroid, new mario bros, advance wars and castlevania are all great purchases. BUY THEM SECOND HAND! ~£15-£18 tops that way

Online is simple to set up but you need to set your router to 1-2 Mbps transfer rate only for it to connect.

Yes checking some sites now for second hand games, good way to stretch my budget. Will check out your list now.

Anything else that I should be looking to buy like screen protectors and the like?

Don't go anywhere near screen protectors, they are an enormous waste of money unless the placebo effect means enough to you to put up with the large disadvantages.

You may want to get a hori DSL case though if external scratches bother you and you are going to be chucking your DS in a bag.

Only on some routers. The majority of routers with problems work when set to this speed.

worms is great multiplayer but probably the worst in the series for single player.

Just got for Advanced wars £25inc p&p(worth it?) just hope i like it :P

Sorry for the double post, but I got another quick question...

I realise playing US/JAP games is fine on UK machines but will the Wi-Fi modes still function as PAL versions like on Mario Kart etc?

Thanks for your help Kreeeee :)

Picking up Mario Kart DS, New Mario Bros and Animal Crossing in about an hour, should keep me busy :p

nice game selection Animal crossing is addictive :) my Advanced Wars arrive thismorning \o/ shall be playing that soon

i brought a Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster WRT54GS yesterday (NTL paid for it) and both my DS's work a treat online, you just enter your WEP encrypted key on the DS to gain access to your network.
