Ok guys, i am about to spend a fat wad of my money on a new computer and a few other bits... My computer is the entertainment system of my household so the sound card and graphics card are the most important thing to me... The case and monitors etc I want to all match and I have a small thing about full tower cases, I like the space they have inside to expand etc. Can someone clarify if the psu will fit in the case, if all the items will work together, and if over all i had gone and bought something that is shockingly bad, or if I have forgotten anything i may want. Buying the retail processor so can someone tell me if I really need a better heatsink and fan and if so recommend one! Cheers in advance guys (BTW, budget is 2500 for everything)

ok i think i am going to stick with AMD, unless you can suggest a motherboard and processor. I have been out of the game for so long I really don't know whats going to be best.

Looks a good system, if your running at stock/ only mildly overclocking it should be fine. If you plan on serious overclocking then Intel would be the better option.

Will be doing very little overclocking for the time being, however if you can give a good alternative for Intel I will look at it. I want whatever is going to be the fastest for my gaming really! Going to order with in 5-10 minutes so please if possible suggest a good alternative for me!

Top-end graphics card, but only a 19" monitor? Your PC's power is going to be wasted at those sorts of resolutions. You'd be better off with a good 20 or 24" display, something that will actually make use of the hardware.

Hey Sepheh,

Just a few things worth considering, for a start weather your going to be overclocking or not, if your spending that amount of money go for an Intel system.

Any reason for getting 2 monitors?

The Logitech DiNovo Edge Bluetooth Keyboard is a nice keyboard but is certainly not worth the price tag. Ive bought one but it is going back, it looks really nice but that is all it is.

Is their any reason to get the Apple iPod Video 80GB 5th Generation MP3 Player are you honestly going to make full use of it or are you just buying it becuase well.....

Will you use all of the features in Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Edition DVD?

The Logitech Z-5500 THX® Certified 5.1 505 Watts Speakers are extremely expensive, are they really worth the money?

Speakers - worth the money i had the old versions of them and spent more money than that on them and I think they are completely worth the price tag.

Windows, I dont know whats the best, for home use should I be going for something for cheaper? :o

Ipod I am buying no matter what, from here or from the apple website, it just makes sense to get it all from the same place? I am working a lot at the moment so don't have time to be worrying about buying from different places.

Keyboard - currently have the dinovo set and I absoloutly adore it and wanted to upgrade the mouse so I thought I may aswell get the new keyboard aswell.

As for suggestion of the monitor, what would you guys suggest for the same price as the 2 x 19" monitors?

Personally i don't think it's a waste, (but he has quoted 2 btw) a 19" monitor is a good minimum size to have and the Ultra won't be stressed for a while yet.

The top end cards maybe able to fly through games now, but give it 6 months or so and the old programmers will be making even the mighty Ultra's GPU sweat ;)

Coz having 2 is soooooo seXeh, i'm so tempted to get 2/another. Although i did spot a Xerox 22" widescreen tft with a glass front for £240 in my local shop and that looked very nice indeed. I suppose 2 x 22" would be a graphics card killer :p

Nice, seeing as your going to be running Vista, maybe 4Gb of ram instead of 2Gb also you could go for the slightly faster 800Mhz flavour? Get it while its cheap :)

edit: u have quoted 2.....look before you leap and all that :o

My 1900XT seems to manage most new games fine at 1680x1050 let alone 1440x900 - if it's a top-end machine, I just think it deserves a good display (or two). 20"+ is fantastic for usability.

I don't disagree, i'm even tempted to get another 19" monitor myself or get 2 new 22" beasts (not sure if they would fit on my desk though) What worries me is, the current mid/top end GPU's/systems are running games fine now at 1680x1050, but for how much longer?

With the likes of Crysis upon us, to acheive a decent frame rate you may have to lower the resolution down a notch or two from the native resolution just to get a constant 60fps :(

Ahhh the joys of PC gaming :p

OK so choice of case and stuff is obviously personal preference right? I quite like full tower cases and aluminium ones at that. I will look at other cases, just at the time I was concerned about the space issue etc.

Is 4gb of RAM going to be the best for me? I already have hard-drives to use for storage i went for the raptor for access time etc. I already have a over 300gb in storage.

Taken your advice about the soundcard as there seems to be very little difference for the price.

Looking at bench marks it seems that the AMD is slightly better than intel, is the suggestion of the intel purely for overclocking?

Anyway taking on all these suggestions I have come up with a revised specification. Still going with AMD though as I really fancy trying out AMD and from what I have read other than overclocking AMD has a slight upper hand in bench marks! Cut down on some of the unneccesarry expenditure, just would appreciate if someone could clarify if I am going to need to buy any cabling almost everything being purchased is a retail item so I basically just need a small bit of clarification! Cheers in advance guys, your information has been very valuable and I think from it I have saved myself already £150 on very unnecessary purchases!

If your doing very little overclocking there is no need for the 8500 RAM. The AMD chips dont overclock well at all any way.

But as everyone else has said I would go Intel.

I would also get a bigger monitor and also a different case (I dont like the P18x cases. Not a lot of room in them for my liking.

That motherboard is also the best AM2 board that is out at the moment. Even though it is 590.

I would go with stickrods suggestion but a different case.

Okay okay okay... gonna stop being stubborn... the Q6600 it is then, motherboards though I am still at a loss with guys! Thinking about:
Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-236-AS

Any suggestions on a better motherboard? ASUS if possible :)

Also just realised I thought he had linked the same ram as me but it infact is not, changed the RAM on my spec!

Why go for the E6600? Especially if you go for the P5k

Get:-

P5K
The Ballistix RAM
E6750
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme

Overclock the hell out of the E6750 or if you can afford it the Q6600. :)

If you really dont want to do a lot of overclocking get some Corsair RAM and a Q6600. Get a bit of a overclock but the Corsair RAM is some of the best around for stability.

The P5K is one of the best motherboards you can get. Though all the high end P35 boards are the same really, Abit, Gigabyte and Asus.

But seen as you like Asus go for the P5K Deluxe. :)

Also good choice on the speakers I have them and they are awesome. :D
