Hello everyone :)

Im about to buy the following and i have a few questions:

Amd Athlon64 3700+
- do you think this is the best bang for the buck?
- does it really have 1Mb Cache? Why does the 3800+ have only 512Kb?

Thermaltake Big Typhoon
- Ive read a few reviews about them and they seem to be very good, my only concern is the weigth?Massive 825 grams... Will it not break the motherboard?

Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 Motherboard
- Anyone mounted the big typhoon on this?
- Which slot is the closer one to the cpu? Is it the Agp or the Pcie?

My current Psu (Forton Source 400w heres a link ) will be enough to handle this system? right?

Anyone used the Acousti Ultra-Soft Arrowhead Fan Mounts ? Are they any good?

Thanks :)

if you are gaming or overclocking the 3700+is a fantastic chip. but it mite be worth considering an 3800+x2 if your do multitasking aswell.

the big typoon is a fantastic cooler but it mite be worth considering a scythe ninja or a freezer 64 pro aswell (freezer pro best bang for buck)

and form what i have heard the Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 is a gd board and will fit a typhoon or a scythe i think also i thinnk the pci-e is the closest to the cpu(excuse me if im wrong)

well im kind of on a tight budget, so im going for the 3700.

I would get the freezer 64 pro, its just that it doesn have a replaceable fan(or does it?), and i like the fact that the typhoon has a 12mm fan so its quiet :).

thanks

Well, My friend has the freezer Pro and I have the Typhoon, We have identical chips, the same clock. And my temps are about 4/5c better than his when idling and on load his goes to 50c+ while mine hovers around the 45c mark. So i'd go with the Typhoon over the freezer anyways.

I also have the Asrock Sata2 board you are getting, So yes the Typhoon fits to it fine :) As for which is closer to the CPU I couldnt tell you right now as the PC is in use :p But i'll take a peak later and let you know.

You are right about the sound the Typhoon makes, Its nice a quiet not silent mind you! but much quieter than the stock cooler, which amazed me

ah, great thanks. good to hear that it fits and that its better than the freezer64. :)

are you running a pci or an agp graphics card?
did you have any issues with the weight of it?

Hi, No issues with weight, although yes its heavy, But its not like you notice once its placed. Doesnt hurt anything tho. :) And i'm currently using the AGP slot on the board.

ok, i have one more question. Does the asrock motherboard come with any sata cables? If so how many?

Anyone used the acousti fan mounts thingies?

You won't hear the Freezer Pro either, the typhoon is bigger and it was to my understanding this doesnt fit in all cases.

The freezer is a fraction of the price, and it keeps my 3200 venice at 35C idle - 41/42C under load. My chipset cooler produces more noise (its practicly next to the cpu, followed by the ever so annoying x1800xt cooler.

Yeah, I would get the freezer, its just im worried that when the fan breaks or stops working, ill have to buy a new freezer, because normal (92mm) fans dont fit on it(or am i wrong?)?

The 3700+ is a San Diego core which runs at 2.2Ghz with 1mb L2 cache. the 3800+ is a Venice core which runs at 2.4Ghz but with a 512kb L2 cache.

Imo, the 3700+ is best ;) I just bought one myself a few weeks ago and it has clocked from 2.2Ghz up to 3.05Ghz on a Thermalright XP120 cooler :)

If you're on a budget and want a decent CPU for gaming etc, and you're not scared of overclocking, the 3700+ is a beast :D

800mhz oc? very nice :) i propably wont be going that far, this is gonna be my first pc that im gonna/will be able to overclock, so im gonna take it slow :p So are the E4 chips the better ones for overclocking? The ones that they have here on ocuk are the E4 ones? or?

A bit off topic: Will i get a vat receipt with my purchase? Or will i have to ask for it?

thanks
