Hi all, I am planning to replace my bulky desktop PC with a laptop, and am seriously considering a macbook. However, I have a few questions before I take the plunge;

I understand that the macbook has just been updated so I'm assuming there will be probably no further upgrades in january?

If this is the case is it likely that ilife 07 will be the only difference between buying a macbook now and one next month?

Is there any chance of leopard being released in january?

If I buy a macbook now from the apple store do you think I could negotiate a free upgrade if ilife 07 and/or leopard come out next month?

sorry for all the questions but I want to be sure before converting...

It is unlikely that the MacBook will get updated again until at least the middle of next year.

iLife is expected to be announced at Macworld in January when it is expected that they will also announce the release dates for Leopard. That is not expected until Spring 07 though.

You MAY get a free upgrade if you order now, but there is no way of knowing, ask Apple?. However, iLife is only about £50 anyway and upgrades cheaper so I wouldn't worry too much and I doubt 07 will be too groundbreaking for it to be a must have immediate upgrade.

As for a Macbook - superb bit of kit, you will not be disappointed. Remember, once you've had Mac, you don't go back! :)

I agree with AJUK, the Macbook is a seriously awesome piece of kit.

Best build quality I've experienced with a laptop yet, and I've worked with a few (usually fixing various uni mates' ones :p ). OSX is awesome too, and with Bootcamp allowing you to run Windows XP, I can't think of anything better.

It's only 3 weeks away until Macworld '07 - If you can wait for that short amount of time i'd defintely wait :)

So are you guys expecting something more at macworld i.e. beyond iLife 07? price drop perhaps?

If it's just an updated iLife and the hardware won't change then I'd rather get one now and use it when I'm off over xmas

any thoughts?

Expecting, no, but I would like them to announce iWork '07 to include a spreadsheet at long last.

I just bought my macbook (coming from Windows) and am loving it. My advise is don't buy from the mac store though, a well known dept. store offers a an extra years warranty on top of Apple's standard one year so buy from there.

I've also purchased a mac in the last week. Loving it thus far, although unfortunately I have to use windows for some workie things which is stopping me switching full time.

Loads more than iLife '07 :), theres rumours of a 12" ultra-slim, flash memory Macbook Pro, iPhone, a proper video iPod, PDA, iWork '07, there is also a possibility of Leopard being released ... so Apple can say they beat Vista. Also a completey new mid-range mac model and price drops, who knows :)

The event is on the 9th of Jan by the way :)

Yeah, my iMac 20" is winging its way to me from there! May as well have an extra year's warranty and superb service and after-sales, all for free! :)
