Unless anyone can recommend an alternative for the price ;)

I currently have my Yamakasi 27" FS in the MM and as mentioned there, looking for something smaller, ideally a 24" IPS.

Having looked around it seems like the Dell U2412M seems to be a great monitor for the price. In terms of over picture quality, how well will it fare against my current Yamakasi?

I understand I'll lose the benefits of 2560*1440 but that's not an issue for me really as I am tight for space.

Any thoughts welcome ;)

Looks like a good monitor and it was the monitor I wanted my self for a while too, but wouldnt be able to do a direct comparison to your current Yama, but someone will :) - only thing I can think of is that you know you'l lose the benefits of wqhd but have you used a monitor with lower res. recently? Ive only been using a wqhd monitor from december but have to say it is night and day compared to the lower resolutions :)

Yep I'll be losing quite a few benefits to be honest, but I'll have to accept that unfortunately. I haven't used a monitor with a low res recently but I feel 1920*1200 @ 24" still should be very good. The main thing is the IPS Panel which I find far superior than TN panels. I don't really game that much on the PC, it's mainly for desktop and movies which is which I think this will be better too.

Love my 2412, but wanting a 2711 now !! Havent noticed any blur or lack of rapid response using the 2412 even though its 'only 6ms'..

How would you rate the monitor for desktop and media use mate? It's great to hear it's a good panel for gaming too, although I'd only be using it for the aforementioned.

Looking forward to hear your thoughts :)

I have one and it's very good. Colour reproduction and contrast are as good as you'd expect from an IPS panel, plus there's Dell's superb warranty.
Mine gets full use as a work/gaming/movie station and it's great bang for your buck. as it's 1920x1200 you get letterboxing on unformatted DVDs but I don't find it enough of an issue to re-size.

Expecting the monitor within the next hour or so, will keep you guys updated on my thoughts of it against the Yamakasi!

Okay I've had some time with the monitor, and all I can say is WOW!

When I first set it up it did feel quite small, but that's a given coming from a 27", but I've slowly started to adjust to the new screen size and resolution.

Out of the box I thought the brightness/contrast was set too high so I've lowered it a little (does anyone have a link to any calibrated settings?).

As terms as picture quality goes vs the Yamakasi, I'll have to be honest and say I think the Yamakasi was slightly better in that department but that's not to say the Dell is no slouch. Viewing angles seem to be pretty much the same and the screen looks perfectly uniform to my eyes.

I've yet to try some games on here (will try later today) so looking forward to see how that performs.

All in all I am really impressed with this screen!

glad to see it's a good monitor. I have a quick question though. I have been wondering about eyefinity and if it is possible with the center monitor in landscape and the 2 outer monitors in portrait. I no it can't be done, but with the rotate function would it be pssible with the dell ?

I don't see why not? I guess the only thing that would restrict this is eyefinity software but it should be possible.

Okay I've got a slight issue, any picture I view in windows photo viewer or any screenshots I take always come out extra dark. Anyone know why this might be?

Edit: fixed it, it was due to some colour profiles I tried out that I forgot to remove!
