Does this seem like a good combination? Anything you would change?

CP-127-IN Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-127-IN)

I'm unsure on what to by for the graphics card - either:

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-053-CO)
(£164.49 Including VAT at 17.5%)

or

OcUK GeForce 7900 GTO SILENT 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM (GX-041-OK) (£187.99 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Anyone know if the (SILENT) 7900 card is actually very quiet or not? Are they similar in performance?

I'd really appreciate any advice - would like to order this tonight or I wont sleep very well ;)

There's no point in rushing the order as it will not ship until Monday. You may as well take your time allow the guys in the know to look over and advise you and wait until Sunday/Monday to order it.

In that case how about:

£474.99 £474.99
HS-017-AR Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR)
£11.99 £11.99

If you can afford this will be an awesome rig.

Having had a look round, if the above spec is a little pricey then what you have should do you fine and the grahics card you mention looks good too.

hmm actually I probably will go with what you said.. - lol though funnily enough the remote control was what tipped the scales on my decision ;)

Final order will be

NW-083-NG Netgear DG834PN 108Mbps Rangemax Wireless ADSL2 Modem/Router/Switch/Firewall (NW-083-NG)

Unless anyone sways me otherwise within the next hour or so ;)

I'm hoping I can run this reasonably quietly - as I think the performance of the GTO seems to be about the same as the X1900XT..but I'm not a big fan of noise so thats why I'm willing to pay the extra. (this the right assumption?!)

You choose an 108mbps router. Do you have a 108mbps card to link to it or is it 54mbps. Would be a waste of money if you have the slower card.

Going for memory with a latency of 4 is better if you want to overclock, like the geil 6400 memory.

I'd go for the nvidia because ati drivers are lame.

The Geil 6400's will clock better even though they are cheaper? Due to the bundle saving if I get the geils it comes out as £20 more ..think they are much more likely to get better clocks?

Good point about the router - changed it to the Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem/Router/Switch/Firewall (NW-017-NG)
£54.99 £54.99

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) (MY-013-GS) is a bit cheaper than Geil and some say its the best?

Is there any definitive opinion on which RAM brand is my best bet?

EDIT: Going to go with G.skill or Geil due to lifetime warrenties ..but still not sure which one lol

I don't think that ram works on that board. There was a problem with one of the G.Skillz ram and the mother board. Thats why i didn't recommend it.

Just looking over your spec. You may want to go for a Zalman CPU fan if you hate noise. Do you a decent powersupply at the moment ?

At a silent pc review website it said the following:

----------------
Freezer Zalman 7k Winner
Fan (V) SPL (dBA/1m)
Voltage
12 33 39 Freezer by 6
9 26 33 Freezer by 7
7 20 28 Freezer by 8
5 17 22 Freezer by 5

°C Rise from ambient
Freezer 4 Zalman 7000 Winner
21 20 Zalman by 1
22 22 Tie
25 24 Zalman by 1
31 27 Zalman by 4

With fan voltage held constant, the Freezer 4 is quieter by a large margin but cooling performance remains close if not equal to the Zalman. In fact, probably the only statistically significant difference is at 5V.

To compare the qualities of the fans, we listened to the stock fans side by side in the lab. Subjectively, the Zalman sounds smoother; its noise is distributed more widely across the frequency spectrum and it lacks the buzz of the Freezer fan. However, the motor hum of the Freezer is lower in pitch, and drops out of audible hearing range between 5 and 7 volts. As the dBA measurements indicate, the Freezer's minimum noise level is well below that of the Zalman.

---------------------

Sorry the table will be awful pasted in but suffice to say with lowered fan voltage I'm hoping it will run quiet when hooked up to an old zalman fanmate I have!

Yeah the 9500 seems on par with the 7000 from what I've read - though I do like the blue led fan for when I get round to putting the window into my case..but I think I have enough lights already!

If I find its not quiet enough I'll probably go for a thermalright 120 ultra with an extra quiet 120mm fan ..and I've only wasted 14quid ;)

Thanks a ton for all your help - really appreciate it.

Will order the above in the next 30mins unless someone changes my mind :p

lol ;) got to make a better argument than that to sway me at this stage ;)..and having never had a driver problem with nvidia I guess old habits die hard.. from toms website it seems similar performance
