Hey guys,

Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 £137.99

MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition £164.49

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 £146.86

£447
£500

Well ive finally got enough money to buy myself a conroe, ive got £500 to blow on it. I wanted the MSi because I own a Neo4 at the moment and I really like it - all of the others seem to have problems and I must stress that I am NOT planning to overclock - I dont want to put pressure on my hardware and increase temperatures :)

I was wondering since there have been problems with boards and ram, will the ram work with the MSi? What are your opinions on this board also? Will I feel the difference from a 3000+ venice and 1Gb of value select? :)

Does anyone reccomend me change anything since I have another £50 left over?

I should add Im using a Tagan 420W ieye-exeye, X850XT PE and 2x80gb IDE HDD's, 1 250Gb HDD

If I change the order in any way I will probably buy 2 80gb sata hdd's instead

bah forget the MSI. carp in my opinion. Look at a DS3 or DS4, or even an asus P5B-D. Good even for a little overclock ;)

Hi, the 6600 is £40 over my budget so sorry cant get that, also why is the MSi crap? The reviews I find are great...

hey

Well atm it seems that the E6300/6400 work best with the 965 chipset and the E6600/6700 with the 975 chipset.

Well it's not carp (well im not sure actually) but for £135 you could do soo much better. Forget about what your old MSI mobo was like, the asus P5B-D is by far the best C2D mobo out there. I know your not into overclocking but it's far too easy with this mobo, plus it has loads of headroom. As long as your cooling is pretty good you shold easily... yes very easily get your chip from 2.1 -> 3ghz. thats a big improvement. It has a damn good layout, and is very highly regarded. Plus it costs the same as the MSI.

Excuse my bad explanation. far too much vino, but my advice is sound :D

o b.t.w, what res is your monitor and what do you mostly play ? It'l help if we know all your specs so recomended updates could be made. Actually if going for a a board like asus p5b-d or gigabyte ds3 then you may as well get a E6300. The overclock is soo simple and will not even need the V core to be raised :)

I personally dont think most would see much difference between a 2mb cache and a 4mb cache core 2duo - yes there is benchmarking differences but very little when actually using the pc - unless you encode etc

Thanks for the comments,

I dont play that many games, battlefield 2, halo pc, halo 2 for vista when it arrives. I can see what your saying about the ASUS board - what about the one with Wifi and the remote control? That looks like a beast.

As for the ram, since im not overclocking I just want to know if its compatible now with the MSi powerup board - and the ASUS boards because I have herd of problems with new ram and these new boards (I hate sending stuff back)

Have we got any people here that actually own the MSi Powerup board? I want their opinions too
most people went gigabyte or asus at that price point m8.

lol wtf is a 5400 ?

Woops, i just couldn't understand that last night  Just go for the cheaper ram and spend a little more on a better cpu. Seriously a little overclocking is the way to go, as even at stock volts the cpu and memory can be pushed up a few notches.

The asus P5W with it's wi-fi and remote. hmmm..... You have to ask yourself if you will really use those features, or will they just be a hassle to setup and maintain, Ive already pulled out the wi-fi board from mine as i hate wi-fi. Cables for the win :D

Thats true - thanks.

I think I might go with the Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) and pull the WiFi bits out. I like the idea of the remote control bieng able to switch the pc on standby and switch the pc off via the remote from my sofa :p Also lowering the fan speed I reckon that would be cool. Well I do think you guys have convinced me the ASUS is the way to go but I STILL need to know if that ram is compatible!

Ive Decided to order this lot:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-127-IN) - £139.99

MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-072-MS) - £114.99

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) (MY-095-CS) - £124.99

Hitachi Deskstar 7K80 NCQ 80GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (0A30356) (HD-000-HI) - £26.95

Subtotal £406.92
Shipping (City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)) £8.25
VAT £72.66
Total £487.83

Personally Im happy with that - I only really wanted to know if the ram would work with that board but since I still don't have an awnser then Im just going to have to buy it and see what happens...
