Firstly, apologies that this is something like the 3rd thread about my new system but I want to be sure :)

so.. been thinking about this for 2 days straight now... and this is what im about to order:

Now first thing, no PCI-E gfx card.. well, im going to buy a 8800 soon.. secondly, this gonna last a good while? and lastly, will it play crysis at reasonable settings?

Just need a few "yes, just buy it"'s from some members with good rigs (to really convince me)

cheers :D

CPU is fine and a really good one, but I would really consider adding another £15 to the motherboard and picking up IP35-E or P5K SE or ideally the P35C-DS3R (although the DS3R is £24 more).

Reason I suggest quad is that the OP states " this gonna last a good while?"

Well paying an extra 40 quid for a quad will make your pc ready for up and coming games.

Thanks guys :)

Q6600's about £50 more than the E6750.. and as Cannaton said, reckon it is worth it? I want to try and sqeeze a 8800 GTS in there... and my budget's £450.. and since the ram's cheap for another 2 hours.. need to make a decision soon :).

Im a tad bit confused about the mobos, will they all have a IDE ports etc? dont want to order one and then find out its not compatible with other hardware now heh.

thanks

If you can afford the Q6600 then I would get it. If you can't stretch and would rather spend less, then I wouldn't feel like you're gimping your PC with "only" an E6750 as that CPU is still superb and will have no trouble holding it's own in games like Crysis and Alan Wake, providing the graphics card is good.

Most modern boards only have a single IDE connector, so you'd be able to connect 2 devices.

Ah okay, better get a IDE to SATA cable then.

Following your excellent advice...

  • Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
  • GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)

that's okay?

Datta Boy:D

That should get you 3.6ghz with good air cooling and case cooling :)

Make sure you get a G0 quad energy efficient version

I would upgrade your PSU ASAP.

Its the most important part of any modern PC

Ummmm, you really don't want to be running all that nice kit off an underated PSU, if it dies they usually take something else with them.

Hi Minstadave;)

Yeah he's totally correct.

You are playing with fire if you do not have solid power!

I'm a poet and I don't know it!:p

lol okay - fair enough.. it's done a damn good job though :) still dont even know what the wattage is. Im a bit scared of getting a nice expensive psu and then have it go "pop" like ive seen all over General Hardware ;)

Not going to install it straight away as I haven't got a PCIE card yet - waiting till I sell my fuji S5600 + current rig - then im gonna get a 8800 GTS... god im going to regret this :P
