Hi guys, been looking for a good system for months now and only decided just to build my own as I could get a better spec system than what I could get out the shop for the same price :).

anyway have been looking at some threads and looking about the site for a month or two for some spec ideas, here’s one that I seen another thread but with a few changes.

hopefully a few of you can shed some light on this if its worth the cash and if its spec'd right.

I'm needing the computer for music/games/dvds also I run my own site so web design also.

I know that the multimedia display isn't needed but its just looks funky

Thanks.

A few things I'd change -

Get a ATi 4850. You could get one for about £20 more, but it'd be worth it.
That PSU seems a bit pricey, and overpowered for what you'll need. Take a look at Psu's around the 500w mark. The Corsair 520w is about £20 cheaper, so makes up for the more expensive 4850.
You may as well go for a P45 board instead of a P43.
Try and stretch to a Core 2 Duo

:D

edit: Also, i'm not sure that cooler will fit!

650W is too much for that spec. Get the more reputable Corsair HX 520W or VX 450W. Money saved can go towards the (way) better ATI HD 4850 ;)

The Akasa AK-876 is for AMD socket CPUs. You want the AK-965 but, the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 is better.

EDIT: What's your budget?

This is a much better spec, I agree with all the points above, you've got a few items there that are overpriced for what your getting. I haven't included that media station, never seen it in a spec before, it seems a bit on the expensive side for what looks like it's just media software and a remote.

This is a much better spec

Agreed.

You might like to consider:

Powercolor 4850 1024MB - only £10 more (until Wednesday) and pre-overclocked too.

Asus P5Q Pro +£10, or
Asus P5Q E + another £10 (ie +£20)

Choice of mobo depends on whether you need any of the extra features of the more expensive boards - otherwise P5Q is great.

Oh, and I really wouldn't bother with the display thingy either! If you want to spend some more money, go for a Q6600 or E8400 ;)

Thanks guys, this is my first rig so still learning things.

My budgets around the £500 mark £550MAX :)

Edit to say: i would also like to base it around the antec 900 case :) dont ask why as i dont know myself :p i just like the look of the case to any of the others that i have seen :D

I've got both the 900 and 300 cases, both are excellent, but at the moment for the price the 300 wins for me. I bought my 900 when it was £55, your now looking at £80 for it, the 300 comes in at half the price and performs just as good, some people will say even better than the 900.

To keep the spec in budget, you could always drop the CPU down to the 5200, but I would try and keep the 7300 in there, much better CPU, runs cooler and should clock much better.
