Ok here's my nearly completed list:
Q6600
ABIT IP35 PRO
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
8800 GT

This is just pushing on my budget at around £500. However, I currently have a 500W PSU, the specs of which can be seen here: http://neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/fspbluestorm500w/2.html
Would this be OK or is a new one advisable? If so, which one do you recommend?

I also don't really know which case or cooling to get. My current case is way too small and I'm looking for a new one. Could you please recommend a decent (but affordable) one as well as cooling?
Thanks.

Will you be overclocking? If not get the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I'm quite fond of the Antec P182 case.

The PSU has 2 15 A 12 V rails. I suspect that it'd work, albeit being a bit close to the edge. It's a good thing *** GTs use less power than their predecessors.

Look at the Tuniq Tower 120 if overclocking. Check to see if your case is wide enough to accommodate it.

Worst case scenario is that the PSU is not powerful enough, overheats, and explodes thereby ruining your motherboard, RAM, and CPU.

This seems to be pushing the price up quite a bit.
£60 for a new case :(
Could you just give me a list of what would be a cost effective cooling system/case/psu so I can see at what extra im looking to spend?
Thanks

How's this look?:

I can go cheaper if necessary.

This would fly in games if 'clocked to 3.0 - 3.2ish GHz.

I included a cheaper case just to save money. I went up to the IP35 Pro since it's a little better overclocker, especially chips like the E2180. You could mix and match between the two to your heart's content.

Both the Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU (CMPSU-450VXUK) or Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK) would be OK for a PSU.

Had to wait till today but managed to stretch the budget a bit.
Please bear in mind this is my first build so I would like to make sure I have everything I could possibly need.
List is:
Q6600
ABIT IP35 PRO
8800GT 512MB
Corsair HX 520W
Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler
Geil 2GB pc6400

Akasa case is out of stock so could you recommend another one? I'd prefer one that's black too :p

Will I definitely not need anything else? Thanks for advice.

Got a 120gig IDE in my current PC and a 500gig that I use externally for storage. Think it's worth buying another small one for OS etc on new machine?

The list is good. As far as cases go if you could spring for a Lian-Li PC-7 you'[d be very happy with it.

The HDD question really depends on your storage needs and budget. If 120 GiB will suit you just fine, the stay with it. The mobo will have provision for two PATA devices.

Just wondering on the hard drive front as the 120gig is IDE and I wondered if there would be any speed difference between that and getting a newer one?

A newer disk is definitely going to be faster. The question is whether or not you care.

If you decide to get one, let me recommend the SATA Seagate 7200.10 250 GiB. It's the fastest 7200 RPM drive.
