Hello everyone.

I'm nearly ready to hit buy. Can you check the configuration that I have selected and advise me if I should be making any last minute changes. I can spend an extra £100 if I need to. Is the memory/motherboard ok? Should I pick a different model 780Ti?

I'm also 50/50 between the ASUS and the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-187-SA. What do you think?

Thanks in advance.

Exactly why I posted this... Thank you. Which board should I go for?

Asus Z87 Maximus VI Hero Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Motherboard a better option?

Thank you. So if I stick with red the Asus Z87 Maximus VI Hero should be a better option.

Orange could be cool though and the board is amazing value for money.

Have you considered building it yourself? :)

If you are set on doing it all through the configurator then:

If you can afford a 780TI and a 4770K I say go for it personally, just as more and more and more games are beginning to benefit from having more than 4 threads to play with.

Out of those two motherboard choices I would go with the Asus simply because it is a more well rounded (and in my opinion more aesthetically pleasing) motherboard. The Z87-OC and its obnoxiously bright black & orange colour scheme is tailored towards out and out overclocking at the expense of some other premium features. (like more PCI-E expansion slots and better onboard audio etc), though the Z87X-UD4H is also worth a look (and does also follow a black/red colour scheme).

You don't need 16gb RAM, either. Stick with 8gb.

How much extra is the 4770k over the 4670k? It can be justified for gaming these days.

What are the alternative CPU coolers to the h80i?

Fair point on the memory, you could use 8GB. I personally have 16GB because... It looks nice... But that's the kind of person I am. :p

Again if you go with 8GB, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from adding another 8GB :)

The 4770K adds £62.50 to the total build cost. With a 780TI I would be inclined to go for the i7, but with some lower budget systems it may not be quite so worthwhile.

CPU coolers:

Intel Stock Cooler (Non overclocked systems)
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 1 Overclock- [add £16.66]
Akasa Nero 3 V2 Premier CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 2 Overclock- [add £21.66]
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU COoler - Up to Stage 2 Overclock- [add £22.49]
Prolimatech Panther CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 2 Overclock- [add £27.49]
NZXT Respire T40 Heatpipe CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 3 Overclock- [add £29.16]
Alpenföhn Brocken 2 CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 3 Overclock- [add £32.49]
Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 3 Overclock- [add £33.29]
Prolimatech Megahalems Rev C Premium CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 4 Overclock- [add £35.82]
Akasa Venom Voodoo CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 4 Overclock- [add £37.49]
BeQuiet Dark Rock 2 CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 4 Overclock- [add £41.66]
Prolimatech Megahalems Blue CPU Cooler - Up to Stage 4 Overclock- [add £44.16]

Zalman LQ315 Ultimate Liquid Cooler- [add £52.29]
Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Water Cooler - Up to Stage 4 Overclock- [add £59.99]

Is there no benefit at all in using 16bg? For work I sometimes have around 20 different internet tabs up and I do a lot of multi-tasking. I thought the 16bg might help a little with that.

Cooler wise there were quite a few options.

Prolimatech Megahalems Red CPU Cooler
BeQuiet Dark Rock 2 CPU Cooler
Zalman LQ315 Ultimate Liquid Cooler

These ones are all a little bit cheaper.

This will be my 3rd O/C pre-build. I'm always happy for them to sort it all out. One day I will grow some and have a bit more time to sort a build out for myself.

i7 seemed like a no brainer. I can see it being a benefit over an i5 going forward.

If you've got the budget, go for the i7.

Odd that there is no h100i on that list. I'd be tempted to go for the Dark Rock 2 over the h80i: it's cheaper, quieter, gets you the same overclock, and it looks OK for a big heatsink.

If you're only gaming, I'd choose the i5 over the i7 personally

Nooooooooooo! Why are people still saying this? You'll end up kicking yourself later if you get an i5 now as new games will be using more than 4 threads, and some already do (especially now as the new consoles have 8 cores). If you have the money then go for an i7 and don't look back ;).

Thanks for all your help. Made a few last minute changes, all ordered...

Swapped the card out for a EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Dual Classified ACX
Changed the cooler to a Corsair Hydro H110
Changed the ram to Patriot Venom Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel

Stuck with the Asus...

That Corsair Hydro H110 is a decent cooler, tbh though they do that 540 Air case with pre-built Watercooling Loop, for the money you spent i would have gone that route, personally.

But thats a wicked PC none the less :)
