Right, after a few shots of this tonight, (4) , I've decided that i dont like licourice (sp? lol). So, any varieties out there that don't taste like it?

On the basis that French absinthe is primarily anise, you really want to look towards Czech and Eastern European absinthes, which tend to be far more herbal.

/edit - Also, drinking it in shots is idiotic. Drink it properly. Don't understand what I mean, google it.

Yea, hence why I'm home at ~11:30, some people think more % = a better time... , not more % = A&E

Ah well, Eastern Europe you say? I'll have a looksee

Follow the green fairy!
Largish spirit glass with a largish portion of absinthe and a jug of water, sugar and teaspoon at the ready. Take a heaped teaspoon of sugar dip it in the absinthe so its all 'wet' the set fire to it. Let it burn over the absinthe which should set fire as well then whilst pouring water into the glass stir the sugar into the absinthe then drink. One of my favourite drinks :D

Have a gander at this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17674926&highlight=absinthe - there is a fair bit of information in it.

For preparing bohemian absinthe see here - this is the one that involves setting fire to it.

For preparation of Parisian absinthe see here - I find it quite an enjoyable drink. It tastes far better when prepared properly than a shot does, and adding sugar improves the taste and gets rid of some of the bitterness.

I believe the Parisian absinthe has a stronger taste to it than the bohemian absinthe.
