Want to replace the two 12cm case fans in my Lian-Li PC7+II. What are the very quietest? I want a level of silence that even a laptop would be proud of!

I installed Noctua 1200RPM fans. I checked them out before with my power supply; using the ULNA they genuinely are silent, cannot be heard more than 3" away. That said, they don't move much air like that (can't feel much breeze on your hand, but it feels cool in front), presumably enough though. I changed from 7v mod supplied case fans and unfotunately haven't got much difference, something else is making the noise in there. At least I know it's not them anyhow :D

easyest way i think instead of spending a lot of money on a silent fan is to get a noisy one and link it to a speed changer/ajuster controller thing.

so thats if you do ever want more cooling then you can turn them up a notch or have them silent :)

iv got 10 x 12cm fans in my case and a 25cm fan on the side panel and my system is absolutely silent, not even a hiss or anything, :)

because iv got so many fans they dont need to be on high speed to shift the air because they all help each other :D all at about 600-800 rpm i think :)

11 fans in one case with only one graphics card, I think you may have a fan addiction there mate. I think the word is "fanatical"

Blimey, overkill perhaps? What's wrong with 1 fan in 1 fan out? :p

I replaced my ambers running at 7 volts with Scythe S-Flex running at 12v and found them to be super quiet, oh by the way its the sycthe 8 dba versions. Expensive but worth it.

True, but very quiet for the price at 7v.

Yes but their cfm is poor at 7v. Ambers are not good fans I'm afraid. You can get either Yateloons, Nexus, Papst or my fave the NMB-MAT 38 mil version and a host of others that perform better than the Ambers.

The Aerocool Turbine 1000 at 7V is the best for extreme quietness in that test.

Aha a convert ;) The best fans I have used by far regarding silence and cost (I paid £5 for mine)

I've converted nothing, just looks amazing from that review :) A little weak on the blowage perhaps but wow it's quiet

How do I run a fan at 7V?
+ve lead to 12V, -ve to 5V. Only do this with the big Molex connectors, NOT with a connection to a mobo fan header as things can get very ugly...

An alternative method is to put a resistor in the +ve lead of the fan. Zalman make adapters for 5V and 7V which plug between the lead and the mobo header.
