Specs
M3A79-T Dlx latest BIOS.
Phenom 2 940
2 X 2GB's Crucial Ballistix 1066
2 X 250GB WD SATA2 hard drives.
Asus 4850 1GB graphics.

This is a bit of an epistle but here goes.
This morning my W7 disk arrived, I had built a computer, (specs above),about two months ago and tried it out first with a Linux Line CD, and no problems, then I installed W7 RC build 7100 and again no problems, I then ran it for about a week to have a good look at the new OS, then it was put back in its box waiting for OCT 22nd.

On getting home from work I loaded up the 64 bit W7 Home premium disk, it picked up the DVD asking me to press any key then it went to loading Windows files, then some wallpaper loaded and then nothing, so I tried the 32 bit version and the same thing, and as a last resort I put the RC disk in and the same again.
I then put a Linux live CD in and that loaded with no problems.
The original W7 RC install still works.

In the BIOS I set the DVD as first boot and pressed F10 to save changes and exit, I also tried the default settings and still the same.

Can anyone help as I just do not know what to do next.

I very much doubt it will be anything to do with your boot priorities...

I remember the last time I installed Vista, it seemed to take forever untill it actually gave me any options...

Anyway, pop it back in and when it shows you a wallpaper just wait for 5 or 10 minutes before we jump to any conclusions?

Thanks for posting this, I've just experienced the same thing, so I'll boot from disc again and wait longer. I just had a blue wallpaper and my mouse cursor working on top of it, nothing else.

As long as the cursor moves it hasn't crashed.. mine didn't take to long though.. guess it's down to some DVD drives taking longer to read the media.

I had this problem with the RC. Had to set the SATA drive status to AHCI from IDE which was used when the computer had a XP disk in. Maybe a problem???

ejecting the disk and pushing the draw back in gets things moving again, god knows why it waits so long

After all of the reviews saying how fast the installation was this got me worried a bit last night, seemed to sit there for almost ten minutes of nothing - no noise from the disks at all, then carried on.

I found the whole installation quite fast, except the start when it took about 4 minutes or so before finally giving me the first box, the language box. Formatting my disc was amazing, it was like 'click' done, no waiting!
They could have made the installation process more interesting by giving us something to read about windows while it does it's thing.

Hey, how come I never got asked for my product key?

I thought Vista installed quicker. My Windows 7 install took ages.
