Hey guys,

Ive read a few articles lately on what to have as a basic on your system from a clean install and it got me wondering as to whether or not I have what I should on my system!

So im curious as to what you guys would considor a must have on a clean install as frankly I value your advice far more than a journalist site.

Its quite possible I have myself fairly covered in which case this will just be for curiositys sake :)

Doesn't matter so much now our computers are always connected with fast download speeds. I download and install what I need when I need it.

If I want to see what people are using or what I should keep should the Internet go down I'll check the top 10 popular download on sites like filehippo

Firefox
Winrar
Textpad
Poweriso (old versions only, no bloat)
Coretemp
Cpu/gpu-z
PrecisionX
Steam
Origin
Teamspeak
Putty

Not sure if it includes drivers or not... but I'll skip them and this is 'core apps' rather than software I use for work like adobe/autodesk/office.

palemoon/firefox developer edition (prefer it's looks) plus various addons
winrar
poweriso
gladinet 4.0 personal (for access to hotmail/google drive as a virtual drive instead of copied folders)
shark codecs
sage thumbs
serviio media server
filebot
mkvmerge
notepad++
go contact sync mod
bvckup2 - realtime backup to duplicate folders
xps viewer
aida 64
precisionX - if I don't have this my gpu doesn't spin up when it gets hot :(

Honestly most of my needs are covered by stock software or minor reg 'tweaks'

Winrar, firefox, editpad, k-lite codec pack w/ media player classic, vlc, core temp, cpu-z, gpu-z, markc's mouse fix, some kind of pdf reader.

The rest depends on the system i.e. virtualdub and a basic image editing package is useful to have on many, gaming systems will have teamspeak, mumble, etc. on and putty, winscp, etc. will usually end up on my main desktop and tablets.

Clean install on a mac requires no base applications installed to get a clean experience. Works out the box once you install office then plugins like flash, java, silverlight and shockwave.

Leaving aside the small matter of this being the Windows section rather than the Fisher Price My First Computer™ section, just one small point.

Works out the box

Doesn't exactly tally with

once you install office then plugins like flash, java, silverlight and shockwave.
