I'm looking to pick up a current generation console and I'm swaying towards ps3 due to the Blu-ray.

I'm not interesting in things like battlefield, but absorbing adventure / puzzle / horror games. I watched the top 100 moments on ign recently and my mouth was on the floor at the clip of heavy rain, but I have the feeling I've now ruined the best bit of the game.

Games I like / want to play similar too include:
Resident evil series
Shenmue

I think heavy rain and Alan wake look interesting, not sure if the latter is on a console though :p

So yes, please comment on the above and give me some great absorbing games. I'm not ruling out anything, I also saw the end of the game the darkness on the top 100 as well - I didn't realise games had become so much 'deeper' story wise, Ive been totally left behind this gen :o :D

Alan wake is on the xbox. Great story but it's a little short. Worth getting though.

Other good story games are Darkness (as you mentioned), Skyrim, Assassin Creeds have good story lines, Mass Effect.

Those are just of the top of my head! :)

Alan Wake's a MS published 360 exclusive but I think they've announced it for PC now?

I really liked Heavy Rain but the plot has more holes in it that your average colander.

Adventure/Horror? Dead Space series, Condemned, Resident Evil 5, Darkness...

I've both consoles but prefer the 360 only because I prefer the controller and ecosystem but both are good.

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 have a brilliant storyline, it's almost like a movie. The 3rd one is out next year.

I spent loads of time on RE5 on the unlocks and upgrades, completing on all levels, speed runs and Mercenaries so I'd second that.

I played Heavy Rain right through twice to see two of the different endings using a PS move controller. Very absorbing game with an excellent immersion and sense of being ‘in the game’ sadly let down by some really poor performance, the graphical glitches (screen tearing) ruin it somewhat.

Mass Effect 2 was another excellent absorbing title, again played it through and was totally immersed in the game and enjoyed every minute of it.

PS3 also has Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 which are most certainly worth playing if you’re into adventure type games.

Resident Evil 5 was ok, I played it using the PS move controller and it was ok however there are better games out there.

I’m like you and enjoy good old absorbing adventure type games, I have enjoyed on PS3 –

Killzone 2
Killzone 3
Uncharted 1 & 2 yet to play 3
Heavy Rain
Mass Effect 2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Arkham City

Also Dead Space 2 is excellent and they did a Dead Space Move edition which is a lot of fun as Heavy Rain, RE5 and Dead Space move as well as Killzone 3 can use the PS move and this adds to the way to think about the game.... Gives is something else and can help absorb you even more... I'm not into online, sounds like you're not either...

I found Valkyria Chronicles absorbing due to the wonderful storyline.

Heavy Rain was awesome, i strongly recommend it.

Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 are pretty much the best adventure games i've ever played. They're certainly the best of the genre this generation.
