Behind you... Naked!
I got an X1900XT and its got a stock cooler.

The stock cooler sound like its not intending on being immortal and so, I thought Id try out a fanless cooler for a change.

I have opted for the Artic Cooler Accelero S1 for no other good reason than its cheap.

It came today ( Yeah, one of the guaranteed delivery before xmas orders ).

Anyway, Im chucking all the bits into my PCs and I have just opened this thing up and it does not feel all that good TBH... It feels flimsy and if the Artic Freezer CPU coolers are nything to go by, Im not 100% convinced its a worthwhile cooler at all?

I got an X2 on the X1800XT upstairs and thats definitely a better cooler, if a little big, but im seriously considering putting the S1 onto the X1800XT as thats in a much cooler room.

Anyway, what I am asking is simple...

Would it be worth putting the S1 onto my X1900XT instead of the stock cooler or not?

Yes. I have one on my X1950 Pro and it's very effective indeed. I only paid £12 for mine, so the flimsy thing never entered my head, but it is a very, very good cooler, and I don't often say things as bluntly as that.

Ok then, I will give it a run tonight.

Many thanks for the info mate.

It just feels poor thats all... Wasnt too happy with it TBH.

Brilliant cooler, 33 idle, doesn't go above 50 under load overlocked to 788mhz (12cm fan underneath at 7v) With stock 80 degrees + at stock core, with zalman vf900 around 60-70 stock.

Running on my 8800gt my card was at 37c load last night :p

It's about the best GPU cooler you can buy when paired with a 120mm fan, the only other option being a Thermalright at over twice the price.

Hmmm....

Not happy.

I was unable to get the RamSinks to stick to the RAM.
( Yes, I peeled the backing off and yes the Chips were very clean )

I didnt trust it really.

Before that, the instructions were shopwing abotu this weird shaped aluminum bit that obviously didnt go on this card, and that peeved me off.

The red heatsink was swapped out for the much wider one, that goes on the arse end of the card and thats still on there.

But the RamSinks still would not go... The double sided sellotape just wasnt sticky enough... I was considering glue, but again, not convinced I want to fix the thing on Permanently.

I have decided to go back to the stock cooler, so at least thats had a cleanout and plenty of AS5 applied.

The whole lot of the S1 is now packed back up and I wil going to get in touch with Artic Cooling and ask if they have some replacement RamSinks... They might be able to help, I dont know.

Granted the ramsink sticky pads are rubbish but going back to stock? Are you mad? The stock HSF is louder and not as efficient cooler.

I'd try and work how to fix the ramsinks, rather than getting a refund.

So what the ramsinks aren't very sticky, you don't even need them really.

And the bit that wasn't designed for your card is for an x1950pro (which this cooler was origionally designed for).

If you're that worried you can pick up some thermaltake ramsinks for about £3 a pack.

It is an excellent piece of kit. Buy some replacement ramsinks and some Akasa thermal tape. The S1 is the best aftermarket cooler for the price on the market. It keeps my overclocked 8800GT at 45oc under load passively.

Ok, just thought Id update you.

I have today received my new replacement Ramsinks.. I went for the ZALMAN jobs cos they are supposed to be among the better ones.

Snag is, that there are 4 low ones and 4 high ones... basically 4 frotn and 4 rear of the card and the high ones are too high... by anout 2 or 3 mm actually, so not good.

However... I also got the Akasa Thelmal tape, and so, I used thta to stick the ones that came with the S1 on, and that tape is fantastic stuff...

Anyway, things do seem to be a tad better... Too early to say by how much, but so far its looking good.

Thanks all.

Oh, one small addition... Since I have a load of that Thermal tape still left over, and since it was so cheap, I have got more lined up for my next order, and as I have a load of Heatsinnks lying baout, Im going to go on a Mission to attach loads of useless coolers to stuff that really does not need it... I will cool every chip in my Ataris I think... Purely for kicks.

Childish?

I dont care cos Im telling on you anyway.

The S1 is a good cooler. I was running it passive on my 1950pro but was getting problems with heat when running games. I now have a fan below (outlet) and above (inlet) and turn them up for playing games. However my case doesnt give the best air flow.

I had no problem sticking the ramsinks but i used TIM cleaner alcohol on the ram chips before hand and after sticking them in place i put a stack of books on top until they set around 10 mins.
To anyone finding themselves in a similar situation just get adhesive tape dont need new ramsinks.
Or even better use arctic silver and 2 tiny specs of superglue in 2 corners of each sink as many people have done.

I cleaned the RAM as good as I could. I know its not that.

I thought that maybe they had been stored wrong perhaps?

Not sure, but the original sticky tape stuff simply didnt do a good enough job.

After playing games etc, its still not gone over 50c so Im very happy so far.
